Entrepreneur-in-Residence / Chief Operating Officer

About 1882 Energy Ventures

1882 Energy Ventures is a venture studio accelerating the global energy transition by building and scaling startups that decentralize energy systemsreshaping how homes, businesses, mobility, and networks are powered. By advancing decentralization, we drive decarbonization, enhance energy efficiency, and fuel long-term economic growth and development in the Philippines and beyond.

The Venture

EnerGoals is the scaling partner for decentralized energy developers and EPCs. The platform unlocks growth by integrating flexible financing, vetted workforce access, procurement support, and investor-grade risk and payment infrastructure into a single backend system. By removing operational and capital bottlenecks, EnerGoals enables developers to deliver zero-down offerings, execute projects more reliably, and scale portfolios faster while maintaining transparency and confidence for capital providers.

About the Role

As a potential Chief Operating Officer, you will drive the day-to-day execution of EnerGoals, building the operating engine that enables decentralized energy developers and EPCs to scale in an early-stage environment. You will implement and optimize workflows across financing, workforce, procurement, and payments, ensure tight cross-functional coordination, and establish the metrics and controls required for reliable platform performance. This is a hands-on operator role requiring strong process discipline, systems thinking, and domain fluency in decentralized energy to scale execution in fast-moving emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Developer Lifecycle & Supply Engine:

  • Design and scale the end-to-end developer lifecycle, from sourcing and qualification through onboarding, activation, financing readiness, and ongoing portfolio monitoring, in an early-stage build environment. Ensure a predictable, high-quality pipeline of developers and projects flows into EnerGoals.
  • Establish standardized developer onboarding and activation processes that reduce friction, shorten time to first project, and improve long-term developer retention on EnerGoals.
  • Build closed-loop performance feedback systems that continuously assess developer quality, project outcomes, and execution reliability, strengthening platform trust with capital partners.

Platform and Workflow Architecture:

  • Own the design and continuous improvement of the developer-facing operating model across EnerGoals, ensuring workflows are standardized, scalable, and grounded in field realities across Southeast Asia.
  • Work closely with the Tech Lead to translate operational requirements into platform features, including project tracking, milestone management, exception handling, and developer dashboards.
  • Drive automation and process simplification across onboarding, project management, and portfolio monitoring to support high transaction volumes without proportional headcount growth.
  • Ensure financing, execution, and monitoring workflows function as one cohesive developer experience within EnerGoals.

Execution Reliability and Partner Performance

  • Define how execution partners and service providers are embedded within EnerGoals workflows, ensuring quality assurance, performance visibility, and accountability that supports developer scale.
  • Establish standardized performance metrics and scoring frameworks for EPCs, crews, and O&M providers to improve execution transparency and consistency.
  • Implement feedback mechanisms that capture field performance data and translate it into actionable insights for developers, partners, and internal teams.
  • Drive initiatives that measurably reduce project delays, cost overruns, and execution risk across EnerGoals-backed portfolios.

Data Infrastructure & Intelligence Layer

  • Partner with Product and Tech to build and maintain EnerGoals core data backbone, including developer performance datasets, project execution data, asset registry depth, and payment and portfolio telemetry.
  • Ensure data pipelines are clean, standardized, auditable, and investor-grade, enabling high confidence in portfolio reporting and risk visibility.
  • Develop internal and external dashboards that provide near real-time visibility into developer activity, project status, and portfolio health.
  • Position EnerGoals data layer as a strategic asset that strengthens underwriting, monitoring, and ecosystem trust over time.

CEO Partnership & Strategic Execution

  • Serve as the CEO's primary operating partner, translating strategic priorities into executable operating plans and measurable milestones across EnerGoals.
  • Work closely with the CEO on company planning, resource allocation, and cross-functional prioritization to ensure the organization stays focused on the highest-impact growth levers in an early-stage environment.
  • Provide clear operating visibility to the CEO and leadership team through structured reporting on developer growth, platform performance, execution reliability, and portfolio health.
  • Act as the connective tissue across Product, Tech, Commercial, and Capital functions to ensure EnerGoals executes as one integrated platform.
  • Support the CEO in key partner and investor engagements by bringing data-driven operational insights and credible execution plans.

Financial Workflows & Capital Enablement

  • Design and operationalize end-to-end financial workflows within EnerGoals, including developer financing readiness, contract issuance, disbursement coordination, repayment tracking, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Standardize financing contracts and controls to ensure processes are auditable, scalable, and aligned with capital partner requirements.
  • Work cross-functionally to integrate financing workflows with project, payment, and performance data, strengthening capital deployment discipline and portfolio visibility.

Team Building & Culture:

  • Foster a mission-driven culture that attracts top talent and aligns with the company's long-term goals.
  • Build and lead a high-performing team committed to advancing sustainable energy solutions.

Representation & Advocacy:

  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and investor meetings to enhance brand recognition and drive market adoption.
  • Requirements

    • 7+ years of leadership experience across energy, climate, infrastructure, field services, or adjacent sectors, with demonstrated exposure to early-stage venture building or platform scaling environments.
    • Deep operating familiarity with decentralized energy ecosystems, including EPC workflows, developer economics, project execution risks, and field delivery realities.
    • Strong understanding of climate finance fundamentals and distributed solar markets, with the ability to translate financing requirements into practical operational workflows.
    • Demonstrated experience working in or alongside zero-to-one environments, with comfort operating under ambiguity and evolving product-market fit.
    • Track record of designing, building, or improving operational systems and workflows that support high-growth or multi-sided platforms.
    • Working familiarity with financing concepts sufficient to translate operational realities into inputs for finance and capital teams.
    • Exposure to working alongside capital providers in support of developer financing, platform design, or transaction workflows.
    • Strong cross-functional leadership experience, with the ability to align Product, Tech, Commercial, and Operations teams toward shared execution goals.
