The Engineering Manager is a full-time, on-site position based in Makati, responsible for the safe, efficient, and code-compliant operation of the hotel's engineering, facilities, and maintenance functions. This role includes monitoring key performance metrics such as energy consumption per occupied room (kWh/OR), utility cost per available room, preventive maintenance (PM) completion rate, and mean time to repair (MTTR), using this data to drive continuous improvement in equipment uptime and operating costs. The Engineering Manager oversees compliance with the National Building Code (PD 1096), the Fire Code of the Philippines (RA 9514), DOLE occupational safety and health standards (DO 198-18), and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (RA 11285), coordinating audits, permits, and certifications (e.g., Fire Safety Inspection Certificate, Certificate of Occupancy renewals) as required. The role also involves managing preventive maintenance programs, energy management initiatives, and vendor/contractor performance, and collaborates closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, and Finance to align on capital expenditure priorities, guest-impact incidents, and utility cost forecasts. The Engineering Manager contributes to annual capex and opex budgeting, tracks variance against utility and maintenance budgets, and provides data-driven recommendations to leadership on cost-saving and sustainability initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage, coach, and support the engineering team, including technicians, maintenance staff, and third-party contractors
- Develop the annual engineering budget and capex/opex proposals, including preventive maintenance, equipment replacement, and energy-saving initiatives
- Implement and monitor performance metrics such as PM completion rate, MTTR, energy consumption per occupied room, and utility cost variance
- Communicate engineering goals, safety protocols, and compliance requirements clearly to all engineering staff members
- Coordinate with Front Office, Housekeeping, Security, and Finance to ensure maintenance projects, room readiness, and capex initiatives are delivered on time and within budget
Qualifications
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret equipment performance data, energy consumption trends, and maintenance KPIs (PM compliance rate, downtime hours, MTTR).
- Advanced knowledge of building systems (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and Philippine hotel engineering standards and codes (PD 1096, RA 9514, RA 11285).
- Certification or working knowledge as a Certified Energy Conservation Officer (CECO) or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) under DOE/TESDA guidelines is an advantage.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), building automation systems (BMS), and energy monitoring/metering tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; PRC license preferred.
- Previous experience in hotel engineering or facilities management within the Philippine hospitality industry is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting/dashboard tools, with strong attention to detail in tracking utility costs, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and present data-backed insights to hotel leadership.
- Ability to work on-site in Makati and adapt to a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.
