Job Summary:
The Engineered Wood Products Designer is responsible for the design, layout, and technical support of engineered wood product (EWP) systems. This role supports multiple branches within the region, providing accurate, code-consistent designs in a customer-facing role. The EWP Designer coordinates with sales, customers, and vendors as a design resource and technical extension of the sales team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Produce accurate EWP layouts, takeoffs, and structural designs using internal and vendor software (e.g., isPlan)
- Develop designs based on defined loads, spans, and project criteria provided by customers, builders, or engineers of record
- Ensure designs are consistent with manufacturer specifications, software outputs, and applicable building code requirements
- Review third-party designs (e.g., Ezequote) for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to Woodgrain standards prior to release
- Maintain consistency in design output and documentation standards
- Return incomplete or undefined projects for clarification when required loads, spans, or performance criteria are not provided
- Support design needs across multiple branches (Auburn, Tigard, Phoenix)
- Coordinate with sales and operations to ensure designs align with order requirements
- Ensure timely turnaround of designs to support sales and delivery commitments
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, turnaround time, and accuracy
- Support standardization of design practices across the region
- Maintain awareness of product changes, code updates, and industry best practices
Requirements:
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Drafting, or related field preferred. At least 3 years of documented experience in a similar position performing EWP design, truss design, or structural building components
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, Outlook
- Previous experience working with EWP design software platforms (i.e., isPlan, Forte, Javelin, etc.)

- Engineered wood products (I-joists, LVL, rim board, etc.)
- Residential and light commercial construction methods
- Building codes and structural load concepts
- Plan reading and blueprint interpretation

- Excellent communication abilities and interpersonal skills to be leveraged across virtual platforms and in-person.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with little to no issue dealing with multiple tasks and projects at one time.
- Ability to work efficiently with team members from different geographical locations and expertise backgrounds.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds.
