About the Role
SN Aboitiz Power Group is seeking a Energy Economics Head to lead our market modeling, forecasting, and quantitative research functions. Reporting directly to the AVP – Market and Revenue Portfolio, you will serve as the single point of accountability for developing short-, medium-, and long-term market price forecasts for energy, ancillary services, and renewable energy markets. This pivotal role provides financial decision-support models for corporate strategy, asset valuation, budgeting, mergers and acquisitions, and commercial contracting.
Key Responsibilities
- Market Modeling & Forecasting: Oversee the development, back-testing, and calibration of fundamental and probabilistic market models (e.g., PLEXOS, SDDP) for WESM, ancillary services, and regional grids (Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao).
- Asset Optimization & Hydro-Thermal Integration: Model complex operational constraints, including hydro cascade configurations, reservoir elevation/rule curves, and thermal plant availability/bidding behaviors.
- Financial & Valuation Decision Support: Provide quantitative models and sensitivity analyses to support strategic planning, project expansion, M&A, refinancing, and corporate revenue targets.
- Market Intelligence & Research: Monitor macroeconomic drivers, global fuel price movements, regulatory/policy shifts, demand growth profiles, and emerging power generation technologies (LCOE).
- Team Leadership & Innovation: Lead a team of Senior Analysts and Power Systems Specialists, while driving data science initiatives (e.g., Python-based market simulation tools) to improve modeling runtime and accuracy.
Role Qualifications
Experience & Background:
- Minimum of 8 years of substantial experience in energy economics, power market analysis, or market modeling with a background in leadership.
- Proven track record in electricity spot market operations (WESM), ancillary services, power system operation, and financial valuation.
- Experience managing cross-functional technical teams, data science initiatives, and multi-stakeholder projects.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Sciences, or related quantitative field.
- Preferred: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Engineering, Energy Economics, or relevant quantitative discipline.
Key Competencies:
- Advanced knowledge of market simulation tools (Plexos, SDDP, Crystal Ball, Monte Carlo) and programming (Python).
- Deep understanding of macroeconomic principles, corporate revenue finance, and power system grid codes.
- Strong strategic thinking, communication, and executive presentation skills.
