About Ecommerce Backend Engineer
The Ecommerce Backend Engineer is a critical contributor to our Core Product Build Organization, which is the company's Highest Priority. This role is focused on the technical execution of our primary financial engine. You are responsible for ensuring that the core revenue path is built with absolute precision, as these foundational systems must be designed once, correctly.
Operating in a selective, Not Full Team environment, you will focus on high-stakes engineering tasks including payments, checkout, and idempotency. Your goal is to maintain high Build Velocity by parallelizing aggressively once the core architecture is locked, ensuring we meet our launch milestones with a secure and reliable platform
II. Key Duties & Accountabilities
Transactional Integrity & Core Build
- Execute the development of the core revenue path, ensuring high-performance handling of payments, checkout, and idempotency.
- Implement backend logic that is designed once, correctly to avoid fatal architectural mistakes later in the product lifecycle.
- Parallelize development efforts aggressively to maximize Build Velocity and meet aggressive delivery timelines.
- Ensure all transactional systems are robust enough to prevent engineering from being dragged into onboarding chaos post-launch..
Multi-Tenancy & Access Control
- Build and maintain the multi-tenant architecture and RBAC (Role-Based Access Control) systems defined early in the build.
- Adhere to strict data isolation protocols to ensure the Quality, Security, and Reliability of the platform.
- Collaborate with the Tech Lead to ensure backend patterns are established early to allow the team to ramp once architecture is locked..
Launch Governance & Quality
- Meet rigorous Quality, Security, and Reliability benchmarks to clear the Launch Gate.
- Perform RBAC, data protection, and vulnerability gating as mandatory steps before launch.
- Support critical-path automation only, focusing on the stability of core ecommerce flows and avoiding vanity coverage.
- Ensure all backend code satisfies defined release gates before feature freeze.
III. Minimum Hiring Requirements
- 58+ years of experience in Backend Engineering, specifically within Ecommerce, Fintech, or high-volume transactional SaaS.
- Mastery of Transactional Logic: Proven ability to build idempotent systems and handle complex payments and checkout workflows.
- Architectural Discipline: Experience working with multi-tenant architectures and advanced RBAC.
- High-Velocity Execution: Ability to parallelize tasks aggressively to maintain momentum in a selective, Not Full Team environment.
- Security & Reliability Focus: Deep understanding of data protection and the importance of vulnerability gating before launch.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert level coding in languages such as Go, Node.js, or Python with experience in cloud-native environments (AWS/GCP/Azure).
- Systems Mindset: Demonstrated ability to establish systems once to prevent future technical debt.
