Job Title: Duty Engineer (Licensed Mechanical Engineer)

Job Summary
The Duty Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems of the hotel during assigned shifts. The role requires a licensed Mechanical Engineer who can respond to operational issues, supervise technical staff, and ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and brand standards of Seda BGC.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee daily operation, monitoring, and maintenance of mechanical systems including HVAC, chillers, boilers, pumps, generators, and fire protection systems
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performance
- Respond promptly to engineering-related guest concerns and emergency situations
- Ensure proper operation of water treatment, sewage, and plumbing systems
Shift Coverage & Emergency Response
- Act as the Engineer-in-Charge during assigned duty shifts
- Lead troubleshooting and corrective actions during equipment breakdowns or system failures
- Coordinate with external contractors during emergencies or specialized repairs
- Ensure timely incident reporting and proper documentation
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure strict compliance with DENR, DOLE, BFP, PEZA (if applicable), and local regulatory requirements
- Implement safety protocols in line with hotel SOPs and Company Code of Conduct
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and usage of tools, chemicals, and equipment
- Participate in fire drills, emergency preparedness, and safety audits
Supervision & Coordination
- Supervise engineering technicians and outsourced service providers during duty shifts
- Assign work orders and ensure tasks are completed efficiently and safely
- Coordinate closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, and F&B for operational requirements
- Ensure smooth handover between shifts and accurate logbook entries
Preventive Maintenance & Documentation
- Monitor and update preventive maintenance schedules
- Maintain accurate engineering logs, checklists, and equipment records
- Support energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability programs
- Assist in budgeting, cost control, and inventory monitoring for engineering supplies
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & License
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Licensed Mechanical Engineer (PRC Philippines)
Experience
- Minimum 35 years of engineering experience, preferably in a hotel, hospital, or commercial building
- Prior experience in shift-based or duty engineer role is an advantage
- Exposure to high-rise building systems is preferred
Technical Competencies
- Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, and generators
- Working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and manuals
- Familiarity with BMS and energy management systems is an advantage
