Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • To assist the Chief Engineer in all matters related to the implementation of an effective budget control.
  • To check wastage and ensure optimum usage of material in the operation.
  • To observe and report energy wastage.
  • To replace the Chief Engineer in all cases of his absence from duty as requested.
  • To supervise technicians under his responsibility for performance, quality of workmanship and attendance at work.
  • To ensure that after completion of each job the place of work is left in clean condition, with particular emphasis on guests areas.
  • To inspect regularly the function and safe operation of all equipment under his jurisdiction.
  • To control and verify all engineering logbook entries.
  • To control closely, the consumption of material by tradesmen of his shift.
  • To report to his superiors all deficiencies in equipment operation and effects within the area of his responsibility noted in the course of his duty.
  • To prepare requisitions for material necessary for the job performance of his subordinates and controls the issue and consumption of such material.
  • To perform other duties outside the normal routine if so required, within the scope of the department.
  • To ensure that Planned Preventive Maintenance Program is being carried-out properly and effectively.
  • To supervise personally all hazardous work and ensure that all safety regulations are being strictly observed.
  • To monitor implementation of all energy conservation procedures and report any irregularities and noncompliance to the director of Engineering.
  • To prepare monthly utility consumption of all utility recording instruments.
  • To check timely completion of maintenance requests paying particular attention to guest related jobs.
  • To report to the Chief Engineer any abnormal conditions noticed at any time with life safety related equipment or installations.
  • To demonstrate good leadership skills and motivation of his subordinates.
  • To show good abilities in human resources management of his subordinates.
  • To show punctual attendance at work of all employees.
  • To ensure cleanliness of uniform and general appearance of his subordinates, and make sure name badges are worn at all times.
  • To assist with the creation of an efficient and professional team of Engineering employees.
  • To assist with the departmental training programs, ensuring that all employees have a complete understanding of the hotel's policies relating to Fire Safety, Health and Hygiene and that these policies are strictly adhered to.
  • To supervise closely all applicable rules of safety on the workplace
  • To perform duties outside the scope of his trade in case of emergency, if so called upon.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Mechanical or Electrical Engineer preferred
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in engineering maintenance, preferably in a hotel, resort, or similar facility
  • Strong technical knowledge in HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, fire protection, and civil works
  • Experience in handling guest complaints related to room engineering issues is a plus
  • Good leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in MS Office and basic maintenance software (e.g., FCS, CMMS, Building Automation Systems)
  • Physically fit and willing to work on shifting schedules, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
