Driver Manager/ Dispatcher (After hours)

Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented After Hours Dispatcher to join our growing logistics team. This position is responsible for monitoring freight, supporting drivers, resolving transportation issues, and ensuring exceptional customer service during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. The ideal candidate has previous experience in the transportation industry and is proficient in McLeod Software.

This role requires someone who can remain calm under pressure, think critically, and communicate effectively with drivers, customers, brokers, and internal staff while ensuring freight moves efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

● Monitor active shipments and ensure on-time pickup and delivery.

● Utilize McLeod Software to manage loads, update shipment statuses, dispatch drivers, and maintain accurate records.

● Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers during after-hours operations.

● Respond to driver emergencies, equipment breakdowns, weather delays, detention, and service disruptions.

● Coordinate with customers, carriers, brokers, and receivers to communicate shipment updates and resolve issues.

● Track freight using GPS and load tracking systems.

● Update customer information, notes, appointments, and shipment milestones within McLeod.

● Identify potential service failures and proactively implement solutions.

● Arrange recovery plans for delayed or failed loads.

● Coordinate with maintenance vendors, towing companies, and roadside assistance when necessary.

● Escalate critical issues to management according to company procedures.

● Maintain accurate dispatch logs and detailed communication notes.

● Ensure compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS), and company safety policies.

● Prepare detailed turnover notes for the daytime operations team.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

● Minimum 3 years of experience in transportation dispatch, logistics coordination, or freight operations.

● Previous experience using McLeod Software is required.

● Strong understanding of truckload transportation and dispatch operations.

● Knowledge of Hours of Service (HOS) regulations and DOT compliance.

● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

● Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

● Ability to prioritize multiple situations simultaneously.

● High level of professionalism and customer service.

● Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

● Proficient with Microsoft Office, email, and transportation technology platforms.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience working with owner-operators and company drivers.

● Experience with freight tracking systems and ELD platforms.

● Knowledge of dry van, refrigerated, flatbed, or specialized freight operations.

● Experience working in a fast-paced brokerage or asset-based carrier environment.
