Job Title: Drayage Specialist
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Drayage Specialist to oversee short-haul container logistics, port operations, and carrier execution. This role requires a proven track record in ocean/rail drayage management, combined with exceptional customer service and rigorous data-entry discipline. The ideal candidate serves as the operational hub—communicating directly with clients, managing ocean port and rail ramp movements, and maintaining immaculate system data to eliminate demurrage and detention exposure.
Key Responsibilities
1. Drayage Operations & Execution
Plan, schedule, and execute import and export container movements between ocean ports, rail ramps, container yards, and customer warehouses.
Monitor vessel arrival schedules, Last Free Days (LFDs), container holds, and terminal availability to prioritize drayage moves efficiently.
Coordinate directly with port terminals, dispatchers, motor carriers, and rail yards to resolve gate delays, chassis shortages, and terminal congestion.
Track and manage container dwell times to strictly prevent and minimize demurrage, detention, storage, and per-diem fees.
2. High-Touch Customer Service & Communication
Serve as the primary point of contact for key client accounts, delivering proactive milestone updates and proactive delay notifications.
Handle customer inquiries, urgent escalations, and schedule adjustments with a high degree of urgency, professionalism, and clarity.
Partner with internal cross-functional teams, including Customs Brokerage, Ocean Freight, Account Management, and Warehouse Operations.
Conduct post-delivery reviews with clients to address service feedback and continually optimize delivery workflows.
3. High-Accuracy Data Entry & System Management
Maintain absolute data precision across all Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and internal dispatch boards.
Input container information, seal numbers, delivery appointments, proof of delivery (POD) documents, and carrier charges in real time.
Audit carrier invoices against agreed rate cards and resolve billing discrepancies before final approval.
Generate routine operational reports, carrier scorecard tracking, and LFD exposure matrices for management review.
