Role Overview

Our VIC based client is seeking a detail-oriented Draftsperson to convert architectural designs into accurate shop drawings and manufacturing documentation for a leading Victorian construction specialist. Working closely with the design and production teams, you will ensure drawings are coordinated, buildable, and ready for fabrication, supporting the successful delivery of high-quality construction projects.

Required Skills and Experience

· 2–5 years of relevant experience in drafting, preferably within aluminium cladding, façade, or construction-related industries.

· Demonstrated experience preparing detailed cladding shop drawings, fabrication drawings and installation details.

· Strong understanding of solid aluminium cassette-fixed cladding systems, including:

o Cassette panel design and set-out

o Panel folds, returns and tray depths

o Routing and folding requirements

o Panel joints and shadow lines

o Stiffeners, cleats, angles and support framing

o Fixed and sliding fixing points

o Thermal expansion and movement allowances

o Corners, parapets, soffits, jambs, heads and sills

o Interfaces with windows, doors, roofing and adjoining finishes

· Knowledge of other façade and cladding products, including:

o Fibre cement (FC) sheet cladding

o Aluminium composite and solid aluminium panels

o Metal sheet and profiled cladding

o Equitone and other compressed fibre cement products

o Flashings, cappings, and folded metal components

o Top hats, battens, girts, and secondary support framing

o Sarking, membranes, insulation, and cavity systems

· Ability to understand complete cladding systems rather than drawing panels in isolation, including support framing, fixing methods, weatherproofing, drainage, ventilation and construction tolerances.

· Ability to read, interpret and coordinate architectural, structural and façade drawings, specifications, schedules and consultant details.

· Ability to identify inconsistencies, missing information and clashes between architectural drawings, structural requirements and actual site conditions.

· Ability to read and understand project quotations, scopes of work, tender inclusions, exclusions and clarifications.

· Ability to ensure the shop drawings accurately reflect the quoted scope, including:

o Included cladding areas and products

o Panel types, materials, finishes and thicknesses

o Support framing and fixing systems

o Flashings, cappings and closures

o Insulation and membranes

o Interfaces with other trades

o Items excluded from the contracted scope

o Ability to identify drawing requirements that fall outside the quotation and raise these with the project manager before including them in the drawings.

o Strong panel set-out and detailing skills, with consideration given to sheet sizes, panel optimisation, fold allowances, material grain direction and fabrication limitations.

o Understanding of CNC routing, cutting, folding and fabrication processes for solid aluminium cassette panels.

o Ability to prepare accurate fabrication information, including panel dimensions, fold lines, routing details, hole locations, panel identification and material schedules.

o Ability to produce elevations, plans, sections, enlarged details, typical fixing details, and three-dimensional views where required.

o Competency using AutoCAD or similar drafting software. Experience with Revit, Inventor, SolidWorks, or other 3D modelling software would be beneficial.

o Ability to produce and manage DXF files for CNC cutting and routing.

o Understanding of relevant Australian Standards, National Construction Code (NCC) requirements, and façade compliance principles.

o General knowledge of fire performance, non-combustible cladding requirements, weatherproofing, corrosion compatibility, and thermal movement.

o Ability to coordinate penetrations, doors, windows, structural steel, concrete, roofing, waterproofing, and other adjoining construction elements.

o Ability to incorporate site measurements and survey information into shop drawings and verify critical dimensions before fabrication.

o Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate panel numbering, drawing revisions, issue registers, and material schedules.

o Ability to respond clearly to drawing mark-ups, RFIs, design changes, and fabrication queries.

o Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with project managers, estimators, architects, engineers, site supervisors, and fabrication staff.

o Ability to manage multiple drawing packages and meet project, approval, procurement, and fabrication deadlines.

Preferred Personal Attributes

· Practical understanding of how cladding is fabricated and installed onsite.

· Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to raise issues before drawings are issued for fabrication.

· Commercial awareness and an understanding that the drawings must remain consistent with the accepted quotation and contracted scope.

· Organised, accurate, and capable of working with minimal supervision.

· Able to take ownership of drawing packages from initial review through to approval, fabrication, and final construction issue.

Perks & Benefits:

· Company-provided desktop/laptop with back-up internet.

· HMO from day one.

· 15 Vacation + 5 Sick Leaves.

· Annual performance reviews.

· Employee loan facilities.
