We are seeking an experienced
Risk and Safety Manager with a strong background in the
logistics and transportation industry to lead and oversee risk management, safety, compliance, and loss prevention initiatives.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience
managing a Risk and Safety team and understands the unique operational risks associated with transportation, fleet operations, drivers, warehouses, and logistics. This role will be responsible for developing safety programs, minimizing risk exposure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Risk and Safety team, providing direction, coaching, and performance oversight.
- Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide safety and risk management programs.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, fleet, employee, and transportation-related risks.
- Monitor safety performance, incident trends, claims, and loss data to identify areas for improvement.
- Oversee accident and incident investigations, including root-cause analysis and corrective action plans.
- Manage workers compensation, liability, auto, cargo, and other transportation-related claims in partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local transportation and workplace safety regulations.
- Maintain and improve driver safety programs, including driver qualification, training, compliance, and performance monitoring.
- Partner with Operations, HR, Fleet, Legal, and other departments to address safety and risk-related issues.
- Develop and monitor safety KPIs, dashboards, reports, and performance metrics.
- Conduct or oversee safety audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Identify opportunities to reduce accidents, injuries, claims, insurance costs, and overall risk exposure.
- Establish and deliver safety training programs for drivers, employees, and management.
- Stay current on changes to transportation safety regulations, industry standards, and best practices.
- Support emergency preparedness, business continuity, and crisis response initiatives.
- Communicate risk and safety findings and recommendations to senior leadership.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, safety, compliance, or a related field within the logistics, transportation, trucking, fleet, or supply chain industry.
- Previous experience managing or leading a Risk and Safety teamin the U.S.
- Strong understanding of transportation and workplace safety regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with accident/incident investigation, claims management, loss prevention, and risk mitigation.
- Experience developing and implementing safety policies, procedures, and training programs.
- Strong knowledge of fleet and driver safety practices.
- Proven ability to analyze safety data and develop actionable improvement plans.
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, fleet, HR, legal, and executive leadership.
- Experience in trucking, freight, last-mile delivery, logistics, or transportation operations.
- Familiarity with DOT and FMCSA regulations and transportation compliance.
- Experience managing commercial auto, cargo, general liability, and workers compensation claims.
- Experience using safety, fleet management, incident reporting, or risk management software.
- Relevant certifications such as CSP, ARM, CRM, or related safety/risk credentials are a plus.
