Job Description

As Director of Finance, Accounting and Reporting, you lead accounting, period-end close, and financial reporting for your assigned businesses, legal entities, or regions — delivered through a world-class global shared services model. You will manage roughly 70+ FTEs in the Global Finance Shared Services team supporting North America, Europe and Asia.

As a senior leader in Finance, you serve as the guardian of financial integrity and the driver of its future evolution — standardizing processes, scaling delivery, strengthening controls, and modernizing Finance through automation, advanced analytics, and responsible AI. Technical depth, genuine decision authority, and global impact: this role brings all three together.

Position Responsibilities:

Accounting, Close and Reporting

  • Lead end-to-end Record-to-Report and month, quarter, and year-end close — on calendar, right first time.
  • Own the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and estimates.
  • Deliver statutory, regulatory, and management reporting that is accurate, complete, and audit-ready.
  • Oversee specialized accounting for insurance, reinsurance, and investments — premiums, claims and benefits, policy and actuarial reserves, treaty and ceded balances, investment income, and asset valuation.
  • Act as senior escalation point for complex accounting judgments, unusual or non-standard transactions, and new or updated standards — including IFRS 17 and IFRS 9.
  • Provide accounting advisory for new insurance and investment products, transactions, and regulatory change — turning technical complexity into clear decisions.

Controls, Risk and Audit Readiness

  • Maintain a strong control environment and full compliance with SOX, accounting policy, and regulatory obligations.
  • Lead audit readiness and partner with Internal and External Audit, Controllership, Risk, and Compliance.
  • Identify risks early, drive root-cause remediation, and close findings for good.
  • Build controls into every transition, automation, and system change — by design, not after the fact.

Global Service Delivery

  • Run Accounting and Reporting services in a global shared services model, aligned to enterprise Finance priorities and global process standards.
  • Set the governance: service expectations, performance measures, decision rights, escalation paths, and operational reviews.
  • Deliver consistently on quality, timeliness, productivity, cost, and stakeholder experience.
  • Manage capacity, resilience, and competing priorities across BAU, close, transitions, remediation, and transformation.
  • Make the trade-off calls — protecting financial integrity, controls, and regulatory commitments every time.

Finance Transition and Transformation

  • Lead Finance Transformation initiatives that make Accounting and Reporting standardized, scalable, controlled, and insight-driven.
  • Own transitions end to end: process discovery, knowledge transfer, readiness, parallel runs, go-live, and stabilization — with zero disruption to close, reporting, or audit.
  • Set transition success measures, governance routines, and remediation tracking; close gaps with named owners and deadlines.
  • Standardize and simplify processes across regions and entities — cutting manual work, accelerating close, and strengthening controls.

Systems, Automation and Responsible AI

  • Provide business leadership for ERP, reporting, workflow, and analytics initiatives — from requirements and testing through adoption.
  • Sponsor automation that improves efficiency, scalability, quality, and employee experience.
  • Champion responsible generative AI in Finance, with the right guardrails on data, privacy, risk, model governance, and human review.
  • Advance analytics and visualization to sharpen performance management, risk identification, and decision support.

People and Stakeholder Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of people leaders, technical specialists, and process experts.
  • Build technical depth, succession strength, and cross-training that removes key-person risk.
  • Foster an inclusive culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Be the trusted partner to senior Finance and business leaders, Controllership, FP&A, Technology, HR, Risk, and Audit.
  • Present results, risks, and transformation progress to senior governance forums with clarity and credibility.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA, Chartered Accountant, or equivalent is and advantage. CMA, CFA, MBA, or transformation, risk, data, or project certifications are a plus.
  • 10+ years in financial control, accounting operations, and reporting, including significant leadership of managers and multi-workstream teams.
  • Deep Record-to-Report and period-end close expertise, with working knowledge of Procure-to-Pay and Order-to-Cash.
  • Hands-on experience in insurance, reinsurance, and investment accounting — reserves, premiums and claims, ceded and treaty balances, investment income and valuation. Wealth and asset management exposure is a plus.
  • Advanced command of IFRS and/or US GAAP (IFRS 17 and IFRS 9 an advantage), SOX and control design, cost and expense accounting, and complex transactions.
  • Proven leadership in a global shared services, captive, or multi-location Finance environment — including transition execution, stabilization, and process transformation.
  • Track record sponsoring automation, system enhancements, analytics, or Finance modernization; strong ERP skills (Infor, SAP, Oracle, or similar) plus Excel and Power BI.
  • A leader who thinks strategically, decides with evidence, influences senior stakeholders, protects the control environment, and builds future-ready talent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Accurate, complete, and on-time close and reporting.
  • A strong control environment, sustained audit readiness, and findings closed on time.
  • Service quality, timeliness, and productivity targets consistently met.
  • Finance Elevate transitions delivered and stabilized, with standardization, automation, and analytics targets achieved.
  • Improved process maturity, scalability, and operational resilience.
  • High stakeholder confidence in financial results, service delivery, and technical advice.
  • A growing, engaged team with strong technical depth and succession readiness.
