Design Engineer

Upgrade Energy Philippines, Inc. (UGEP) is looking for a Design Engineer to join our growing team and support the development of utility-scale solar PV projects across the Philippines.

The role will focus on electrical design, MV/HV systems, grid interconnection, feasibility studies, and technical engineering for solar projects, working closely with internal teams and utility partners.

JOB SUMMARY

The Design Engineer will be responsible for the electrical design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV projects, with a focus on medium- and high-voltage systems, grid interconnection, feasibility studies, and technical project development. The role will develop engineering designs and technical documentation, conduct energy yield and pre-feasibility assessments, support Distribution Impact Studies, and ensure compliance with applicable Philippine electrical and utility standards. The position will also provide technical support for project bidding and coordination with utility partners and internal project teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop electrical designs and engineering packages for utility-scale solar PV projects, including single-line diagrams, plant layouts, switchgear specifications, and step-up substation configurations.

• Design and support medium- and high-voltage systems from 13.2kV to 69kV, including grid interconnection requirements.

• Conduct energy yield assessments, shading analyses, and pre-feasibility studies using PVSyst, HelioScope, AutoCAD, and other relevant engineering tools.

• Prepare technical data and documentation required for Distribution Impact Studies (DIS) and utility interconnection.

• Ensure project designs comply with applicable NEA guidelines, Philippine Distribution Code (PDC), and Philippine Electrical Code (PEC) requirements.

• Prepare technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQ), equipment selections, and engineering documentation for project bidding and development.

• Provide technical engineering support during project development and coordination with utility partners, electric cooperatives, suppliers, and internal project teams.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

• Must be a Registered Electrical Engineer (REE)

• 2–4 years of relevant experience in solar PV engineering, utility-scale solar, medium/high-voltage distribution design, or power systems consultancy

• Experience in MV/HV system design, transformer sizing, and protection coordination

• Proficiency in PVSyst and AutoCAD

• Working knowledge of the Philippine power market, NEA guidelines, Philippine Distribution Code, and Philippine Electrical Code

• Willing to travel for project/site visits
