Job Overview
The Design Associate (Retail) is responsible for managing and overseeing the design and fit-out process of retail tenants within Rockwell Land Corporation's developments. This role ensures that tenant store designs comply with Rockwell's design standards, technical requirements, and overall aesthetic vision. The Design Associate will lead and guide tenants, their architects, and designers from concept development through construction and final turnover, ensuring high-quality execution and seamless coordination.
This position requires strong experience in retail store design, tenant coordination, and fit-out construction, with the ability to review, evaluate, and approve design submissions and provide technical and design guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Tenant Design Review and Approval
- Review and evaluate tenant concept plans, schematic designs, and detailed drawings for retail stores.
- Ensure compliance with Rockwell's design guidelines, mall standards, and technical requirements.
- Provide clear feedback and recommendations to tenants and their designers to align with the development's design vision.
- Review and approve drawings including architectural, interior, signage, and construction drawings.
- Ensure timely submission and approval of design documents to support tenant opening schedules.
Tenant Coordination and Fit-Out Management
- Lead and guide tenants, architects, designers, and contractors throughout the fit-out and construction process.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for tenants regarding design and construction requirements.
- Conduct coordination meetings with tenants and their project teams.
- Monitor tenant fit-out progress to ensure compliance with approved plans and mall construction standards.
- Address design and construction issues and provide appropriate technical and design solutions.
Construction and Site Monitoring
- Conduct site inspections during tenant construction and fit-out stages.
- Ensure tenants follow approved drawings, mall regulations, safety standards, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with mall operations, engineering, and project management teams regarding tenant construction activities.
- Assist in reviewing and approving any design revisions during construction.
Design Standards and Quality Assurance
- Ensure consistency and quality of retail store design in accordance with Rockwell's brand positioning and premium retail environment.
- Support the development and implementation of retail design guidelines and standards.
- Ensure proper integration of tenant design with base building conditions.
Project Coordination and Documentation
- Track tenant design submissions, approvals, and construction progress.
- Maintain organized documentation of tenant drawings and approvals.
- Support project timelines and ensure tenant readiness prior to store opening.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
- Licensed Architect or Interior Designer
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in retail design, retail architecture, or tenant fit-out coordination.
- Strong experience in reviewing retail concept plans through final construction drawings.
- Experience working on retail store design and construction is highly preferred.
- Experience in mall, commercial, or mixed-use developments is an advantage.
- Experience in tenant coordination, fit-out management, or retail construction supervision is strongly preferred.
