Job Description

Field Deployment Manager – Commercial Building Technology (Project Management) - Remote

About the Role

This is a hybrid role demanding a proactive driver and a deep technical expert. You will primarily own the physical deployment of company's environmental sensors into occupied commercial buildings. Alongside your deployment projects, you will act as an escalation point for complex technical cases, stepping in to solve the most difficult hardware and network challenges that arise in the field.

You own the journey of getting our devices from a signed deal to a fully live, correctly installed, data-reporting deployment. Once a deal closes, you take ownership of the entire rollout—coordinating general contractors, low-voltage installers, IT teams, project managers, and client-side consultants. When site issues arise, you are the person who directly calls installers and network admins to unblock work rather than sending passive emails. You will resolve complex floor-plan mapping and high-level technical roadblocks yourself, relying on deep, conceptual full-stack diagnostics rather than just procedural memory. You will also serve as a polished, client-facing representative to Fortune 500 executives, translating complex technical products into clear business realities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Sales Deployment Planning: Work with Sales during the quoting stage to design the deployment, determine device and gateway requirements, and ensure the proposed solution fits the customer's environment.
  • Post-Sales Deployment Ownership: Lead deployments after contract signing by preparing customer environments, configuring accounts, coordinating stakeholders, and ensuring connectivity requirements are met (cloud or BMS integration).
  • Installation Readiness: Coordinate with installers and customer IT teams to ensure all technical prerequisites, documentation, access, and resources are ready before installation.
  • Project Management: Manage deployment schedules, logistics, device delivery, and stakeholder communication to keep installations on track.
  • Installation Oversight: Monitor installations, verify correct device placement and functionality, resolve issues, and ensure devices successfully report data.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Independently diagnose and resolve complex installation issues involving networking, IT infrastructure, power, connectivity, firewalls, VLANs, DHCP, routing, and related systems.
  • Stakeholder Communication & Escalation: Provide regular updates to Sales and Customer Success teams, proactively remove blockers, and make sound decisions regarding issue escalation.
  • Complex Escalation Management: Act as the primary technical expert for high-priority field issues, handling advanced troubleshooting and resolving complex deployment challenges with minimal escalation to Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications - these are must-haves:

  • 3+ years deploying or installing physical technology into occupied commercial buildings - for example connected/IoT devices, AV, security, low-voltage systems, or network/telecom infrastructure - where you worked directly with on-site installers, low-voltage/control contractors, general contractors, and client IT teams. This hands-on, in-the-field experience is the core of the role; candidates whose deployment experience is purely software or SaaS project management won't be a fit.
  • A working command of how commercial building deployments actually run. You understand the cast of stakeholders (GC, low-voltage and control contractors, installers, facilities, client IT), how to speak each of their languages, where deployments typically get dropped, and what has to be true on the client's side before install day.
  • The ability to read floor plans and construction drawings and translate them into a device layout.
  • Solid technical fluency in the things that commonly break on site. You can independently diagnose and resolve the standard technical failures of a live install: firewall and port/whitelisting issues, device network admission (IP addressing, DHCP/DNS), cable patching, and the like - often working live alongside the customer's network admin.
