Dental Billing Insurance A/R Specialist

DBA Dental is seeking an Dental Insurance Accounts Receivable (A/R) Specialist with prior experience in dental billing to join our remote revenue cycle team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on investigating unpaid claims, navigating payer portals, and proactively recovering outstanding revenue. You will work closely with our billing and payment posting teams to ensure timely reimbursement, minimize aging accounts, and resolve complex insurance denials through appeals and effective payer communication.

Key Responsibilities:

Monitor and manage the insurance aging report (A/R) in Open Dental to identify overdue, underpaid, and denied claims.
Proactively follow up on outstanding claims with insurance carriers via phone calls, payer portals, and written correspondence
Analyze Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and remittance advice to detect contractual underpayments, timely filing issues, and incorrect denials
Prepare and submit formal appeals and reconsiderations for denied claims, gathering all necessary supporting documentation (narratives, x-rays, chart notes)
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits retroactively to resolve coverage discrepancies
Identify recurring denial trends and escalate root causes to management to prevent future revenue loss
Maintain accurate, detailed notes in patient accounts regarding all follow-up actions and payer communications
Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and payer-specific guidelines
Collaborate with the Payment Posting and Billing teams to reconcile unapplied payments and resolve claim discrepancies
