Job Description: (DCSO) Data Center Site Operations Manager
The DC Site Operations Manager is responsible for the end-to-end day-to-day operations of a data center site, ensuring continuous availability, operational reliability, energy efficiency, safety, and high-quality service delivery. This role exists to safeguard the performance of a mission-critical facility operating in a 24/7 environment, while meeting stringent uptime, compliance, and customer satisfaction requirements. Reporting directly to the Head of North Sites Operations, the position plays a central leadership role in maintaining operational excellence, managing risk, and delivering industry-leading data center services within defined operational, regulatory, and budgetary limits.
The role combines technical authority, people leadership, client engagement, and governance compliance. The manager is accountable for ensuring that all critical infrastructure systems, power, cooling, security, and monitoring, operate reliably and efficiently, while also building and leading a high-performing site operations team. A core objective of the position is to achieve near-zero downtime, maintain strict SLA adherence, and continuously improve operational performance, energy efficiency, and service quality in line with corporate and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
- Site Operations & Critical Infrastructure Management
The DC Critical Infrastructure Manager oversees all daily site operations to ensure uninterrupted service and optimal facility performance. This includes proactive monitoring, preventive maintenance, and rapid incident response to maintain world-class uptime and reliability.
Key Expectations Include:
- Maintaining 99.999% operational uptime
- Ensuring 100% adherence to preventive maintenance schedules
- Managing incidents and service disruptions within defined SLA targets
- Achieving and sustaining PUE targets (typically 1.5, subject to site design)
- Ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient operating environment with zero safety or security incidents per quarter
- Operating the site within approved budgets (5% variance)
- Team Leadership and People Management
The role has direct supervisory responsibility and is expected to build a highly capable, motivated, and disciplined operations team. The manager sets performance standards, drives accountability, and fosters a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key People Leadership Responsibilities Include:
- Leading and developing the site operations team in a 24/7 critical environment
- Ensuring 100% completion of required training and certifications
- Driving strong employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention
- Managing team performance against defined KPIs such as response time, issue resolution, and operational readiness
- Promoting a culture of ownership, integrity, and operational excellence
- Facility, Safety, and Systems Management
The DC Critical Infrastructure Manager ensures that the physical facility and all mission-critical systems are maintained to the highest operational and safety standards.
This Includes:
- Oversight of electrical, mechanical, cooling, and security systems
- Minimizing facility-related outages and reducing mean time to repair (MTTR)
- Ensuring strict compliance with safety protocols and procedures
- Providing a secure and resilient environment for both personnel and client equipment
- Coordinating with facility management teams and vendors to resolve infrastructure issues efficiently
- Client Support and Service Fulfillment
Client satisfaction is a core pillar of the role. The manager ensures that all site-level client deliverables are executed accurately, on time, and in line with contractual commitments.
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing site-level client fulfillment processes
- Building and maintaining strong, trust-based client relationships
- Rapidly addressing and resolving client concerns or escalations
- Achieving high CSAT and Net Promoter Score (NPS) results
- Ensuring fulfillment accuracy and timely resolution of client issues
- Compliance, Risk, and Governance
The role carries full accountability for regulatory, contractual, and internal compliance at the site level. The manager proactively identifies risks and ensures mitigation strategies are implemented effectively.
Key Duties Include:
- Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements, standards, and internal policies
- Supporting audits with a target of zero non-compliances
- Conducting regular risk assessments and implementing corrective actions
- Maintaining operational integrity and minimizing exposure to operational, safety, and compliance risks
- Technology, Innovation, and Continuous Improvement
The DC Critical Infrastructure Manager is expected to champion innovation and continuous improvement, leveraging technology to enhance efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness.
This Includes:
- Overseeing the deployment and maintenance of operational technologies
- Driving adoption of best practices and new tools to improve performance
- Improving operational efficiency through reduced energy consumption and faster response times
- Evaluating ROI on technology investments and innovation initiatives
- Ensuring the site remains aligned with evolving industry standards and best practices
Operating Network and Stakeholder Engagement
The role works closely with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, including:
Internal:
- Head of Operations
- Facility Management Teams
- Site Operations Team
- Client Support and Fulfillment Teams
- Governance and Compliance
- Program Management Office (PMO)
External:
- Regulatory and government bodies
- Technology and infrastructure vendors
- Clients
- External auditors
Strong stakeholder management, communication, and alignment are essential to success in this role.
Minimum Qualifications And Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Business Administration, Computing, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- 57 years of data center operations experience, with at least 3 years in a management role
- Proven experience operating within a 24/7 mission-critical environment
Preferred Certifications Include:
- ITIL, CCNA, CCNP
- CDCP or other data center certifications
- PEE, PME, or equivalent professional engineering credentials
