Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced DB2 Database Administrator (DBA) with strong hands-on expertise in DB2 Utilities (DBU) and administration of DB2 instances on Linux, Unix, and Windows platforms. The ideal candidate will be responsible for database administration, performance tuning, backup & recovery, and ensuring high availability and security of DB2 environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade IBM DB2 databases on Linux, Unix, and Windows platforms
- Manage and administer DB2 instances and databases, including cataloging, instance configuration, and maintenance
- Perform and monitor DB2 Utilities (DBU) such as:
- RUNSTATS
- REORG
- LOAD
- BACKUP & RESTORE
- REDUCE / REBALANCE
- Handle backup and recovery strategies, including archive logging and disaster recovery planning
- Perform performance monitoring and tuning using DB2 tools and system metrics
- Troubleshoot DB2 performance issues, database errors, and application-related SQL issues
- Manage database security: users, roles, privileges, and auditing
- Perform database migrations and upgrades with minimal downtime
- Collaborate with application teams, system administrators, and infrastructure teams
- Prepare and maintain DB2 documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks
- Provide on-call or production support as required
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience as a DB2 DBA
- In-depth experience with DB2 Utilities (DBU)
- Experience managing DB2 environments on Linux, Unix, and Windows OS
- Sound knowledge of DB2 architecture, storage concepts, tablespaces, buffer pools, and indexes
- Strong SQL and shell scripting skills
- Experience in performance tuning and troubleshooting
- Knowledge of backup, restore, and recovery best practices
- Understanding of system-level concepts (CPU, memory, I/O) impacting DB2 performance
Good to Have
- Experience with DB2 LUW latest versions
- Exposure to automation/scripting for DB2 administration tasks
- Knowledge of monitoring tools and enterprise scheduling tools
- Experience working in production support environments
- ITIL or IBM DB2 certifications
