Research Data Scientist

Full-time Independent Contractor-Philippines/ India

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Data Scientist to assist in advancing our racing data modeling efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching stateof-the-art statistical models, developing features related to horse racing, optimizing existing statistical and machine-learning models, and creating novel analytical solutions.

Role Overview:

As a Research Data Scientist, you will be responsible for researching and implementing new predictive features, as well as developing and validating models specifically designed for horse racing outcomes. You will regularly explore research and industry literature related to horse racing analytics, develop innovative features that capture various racing dynamics, and evaluate their impact on model performance. This role demands strong independent research skills, solid knowledge of statistical and machine learning techniques, thorough documentation practices, and effective communication with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct research on assigned predictive models and features to improve accuracy in predicting horse racing outcomes.
Regularly review and implement methods from research and industry literature to optimize predictive models, ensuring robustness and reliability.
Perform feature engineering to develop high-quality inputs that enhance model performance.
Evaluate, compare, and tune models using appropriate validation techniques, such as cross-validation and hyperparameter optimization, to minimize overfitting and maximize predictive power.
Communicate insights and progress through regular reports and presentations to stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience:

*PhD (preferred) or MSc in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
*Strong knowledge of statistical modeling techniques, including Bayesian and Frequentist Inference, MLE, and MCMC.
*Experience in developing machine learning methods using techniques such as neural networks, deep learning, and classification.
Strong Feature Engineering skills.
Proven ability to independently research, evaluate, and implement statistical methods.
Proficient in Python and R, with experience in version control using Git/GitHub.
Familiarity with machine learning frameworks such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
Excellent communication skills for presenting research findings and writing detailed reports.
A passion for horse racing and data-driven sports analytics is a plus.

• Full-time contractual (Independent contractor)

Note: As an independent contractor, you will be responsible for managing your own taxes and benefits. While this role does not include paid leave, you are free to take time off as needed. Please also note that you will be required to provide your own equipment.
