Qualifications
- At least 6 years of experience in data engineering, DevOps, DataOps, or technical program and delivery management, including at least three years leading data or platform engineering delivery initiatives
- Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-workstream technical programs on time and within scope
- Experience managing blended teams of internal employees and external engineering vendors
- Working knowledge of data architecture, ETL and ELT pipelines, and data warehouse and lakehouse concepts to effectively plan and de-risk engineering work
- Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills, with the ability to represent engineering teams to nontechnical leaders and hold technical teams accountable for business commitments
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or similar delivery frameworks, including sprint planning, backlog management, and release management
Technical Skills and Tools
- Demonstrate hands-on familiarity with the team's core technology stack and engage credibly with engineers on architecture, pipelines, and operations
- Apply knowledge of core AWS services, including S3, Glue, Lambda, RDS, and IAM, to evaluate cloud architecture, cost, and operational trade-offs
- Use Bitbucket to manage source control, branching strategies, pull-request workflows, and CI/CD pipelines for engineering releases
- Apply knowledge of Databricks, including lakehouse architecture, notebooks, Delta Lake, and job and workflow orchestration
- Demonstrate working proficiency in SQL and Python to read, review, and evaluate pipeline and transformation code
- Apply familiarity with workflow orchestration platforms, such as Airflow or equivalent tools, monitoring and observability solutions, and incident management practices
- Use Jira, Confluence, or equivalent delivery tools to manage backlogs, roadmaps, and documentation
- Bring exposure to downstream business systems, such as ERP, CRM, or financial platforms, particularly those supporting operational and financial reporting
Responsibilities
Delivery Leadership and Program Representation
- Serve as the engineering team's single point of accountability for scoping, sequencing, and tracking delivery across all active engineering programs
- Represent Data Architecture and Delivery in cross-functional planning sessions, steering committees, and executive status reviews
- Report delivery progress, risks, and dependencies in clear business terms
- Own the delivery calendar, including sprint and release planning, milestone tracking, and go-live readiness across internal and external engineering resources
- Coordinate internal engineers and external delivery partners through a shared backlog, a common definition of done, and aligned delivery timelines
- Escalate and resolve cross-team blockers and resourcing conflicts before they affect delivery commitments
Data Operations and Engineering Oversight
- Define and evolve the team's DataOps operating model, including data ownership, on-call protocols, release management, and service levels for critical pipelines and datasets
- Own pipeline reliability, monitoring, incident response, and release management across the data platform
- Establish and enforce engineering delivery standards covering code reviews, CI/CD practices, environment promotion, testing, and rollback procedures
- Maintain visibility into pipeline health, data quality service-level agreements, and job performance across all data domains
- Drive root-cause analysis and resolution for recurring pipeline and data quality issues
- Support architecture and platform decisions from delivery and operational perspectives in partnership with the Data Engineering Lead and Head of Data Architecture
Governance, Quality, and Risk Management
- Ensure delivery activities align with the data governance charter, RACI model, and data ownership standards
- Own reconciliation, validation, and quality assurance checkpoints between major program phases and releases
- Maintain delivery risk and dependency logs
- Develop and execute mitigation plans for scheduling, resourcing, and data quality risks
Stakeholder and Vendor Management
- Act as the primary liaison for external delivery partners and engineering vendors
- Manage vendor scope, capacity, and performance against agreed deliverables
- Partner with Finance, Human Resources, Client Operations, and other business stakeholders to translate requirements into engineering deliverables and realistic timelines
- Provide regular and concise status reports to the Head of Data Architecture and Delivery and executive leadership
Team Leadership
- Coordinate daily assignments across internal data engineers and business and data analysts
- Balance team capacity across discovery, development, and operational support requirements
- Mentor engineers on delivery discipline, operational excellence, and cross-team collaboration
- Establish and maintain scalable ways of working, including team ceremonies, backlog hygiene, and documentation standards
- Evolve team practices as the engineering group and program portfolio grow
