About The Role
Outsourced is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain a scalable, well-structured data warehouse. You will own the end-to-end engineering of our data platform — from ingesting raw source data through to clean, business-ready layers — and manage the infrastructure that underpins it all. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who takes pride in building things properly.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an existing a multi-layer data warehouse (Raw, Conformed, and Business layers) following modern data engineering best practices
- Develop and maintain robust ELT/ETL pipelines to ingest and transform data from multiple source systems
- Manage and evolve the data warehouse infrastructure using Terraform, with all configuration version-controlled in GitHub
- Collaborate with Data Analysts and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose data products
- Enforce data quality standards, testing in appropriate sandbox environments, and monitoring across all warehouse layers
- Documenting of new data architecture, pipeline logic, and infrastructure decisions to support team knowledge and auditability
- Contribute to CI/CD practices for infrastructure and pipeline deployments via GitHub Actions or equivalent
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, data freshness issues, and pipeline failures
Required Skills & Experience
Data Warehouse Architecture
- Strong Experience building a structured data warehouse with clearly defined layers:
- Raw layer — landing data in its original form, preserving source fidelity
- Conformed layer — cleansed, standardised, and integrated data across source systems using consistent keys and formats
- Business layer — aggregated, business-rule-applied data structured for analytics and reporting consumption
- Proficiency in dimensional modelling concepts: star schema, fact and dimension tables, slowly changing dimensions (SCDs)
SQL & Data Transformation
- Advanced SQL skills for data transformation, cleansing, and modelling
- Experience with dbt (data build tool) or equivalent transformation frameworks for layered modelling
- Strong understanding of ELT patterns and how transformations are applied at each warehouse layer
Infrastructure as Code — Terraform
- Hands-on experience writing and managing Terraform to provision and maintain data infrastructure
- Ability to structure Terraform codebases cleanly using modules, variables, and environments (dev/staging/prod)
- Experience managing Terraform state, remote backends, and handling infrastructure changes safely
- Familiarity with Terraform plan/apply workflows integrated into a pull request review process
GitHub & Version Control
- Proficient with Git and GitHub for source control of both infrastructure (Terraform) and transformation code
- Experience working with branch strategies, pull requests, and code review workflows in a team environment
- Exposure to GitHub Actions or similar CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment of infrastructure and data pipelines
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Snowflake as the cloud data warehouse platform (compute/storage separation, virtual warehouses, RBAC, cost management)
- Familiarity with Snowflake-specific features: Time Travel, Streams, Tasks, Dynamic Tables, and the Snowflake Terraform provider
- Exposure to a modern data stack including tools like Fivetran, or similar ingestion platforms
- Understanding of data governance concepts: lineage, cataloguing, and access control
- Experience working in Azure, AWS, or GCP cloud environments
