Data Analyst - P&C
About the Role:
The Data Analyst - P&C supports all data analysis work associated with our insurance systems development including conversion analysis, data preparation for conversion, reference tables and analysis for feeding downstream systems such as our EDW, Oracle GL and Ceded Reinsurance.
Responsibilities include supporting of data and reporting architecture; RDM/MDM, data warehouse, data lakes, data marts; business intelligence & reporting tools; modeling tools; actuarial tools (pricing, reserving); exposure management tools; works closely with business functions, operations and application leads for requirements; new solution delivery & production operations.
Additionally, this role will have responsibilities related to the managing the process of inventorying incoming requests, documenting requirements, working with key stakeholders on setting priorities, working closely with development team to ensure accurate and timely delivery.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supports the AVP, Insurance Enterprise Data to ensure effective and timely delivery of enhancements to existing functionality and development of any new features.
Provides deep technical and business analysis of data such that developers can effectively create solutions that assist leaders with data-driven decision making.
Creates Source to Target mappings with the support of functional business representatives.
Supports user and technical story writing for all work to be delivered. This will require engagement with other functional areas
Prepares business cases to support the data needs of each functional area within Vantage.
Completes the business analysis activities and supports the development team in the understanding of the analysis.
Provides support in the build out of quality assurance of projects for assigned systems/technologies through vendors, system integrators and internal development teams.
Design test cases and testing scenarios working with QA engineers.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong knowledge of Property and Casualty Insurance, including policy life cycle, policy structure, along with core data elements typically captured.
Experience working with financial data, in particular feeding General Ledger and financial results reported externally.
Strong communication skills. Must be comfortable speaking with and presenting to senior business leaders with respect to data solutions and challenges.
Basic SQL skills, and ability to read/understand ETL code and logic.
Sharp analytical skills ability to triage data issues and recommend corrective action.
Ability to multi-task/focus on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with various data architectures (ODS, Data Lake, Data Marts, etc.)
Keen understanding of data transformations using Reference/Master data.
Experience with Insurance reporting both internally and externally a plus.
Understanding of software development techniques, processes, methods, and best practices. Proficiency with various programming languages used.
Exposure to cloud implementations using structured, semi-structured and unstructured data methods.
Knowledge of application deployment & test automation products, processes, and best practices to ensure full source to target reconciliation.
Good understanding of Agile development methods and their application to company technology needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively lead and motivate team members.
Education and/or Experience:
Required knowledge & skills would typically be acquired through a bachelor's degree
5-7 years of related data analytics and/or data platform experience.
