The Crop Agronomy Assistant implements crop variety trials for all EWS crops in farmers fields in alignment with the overall objectives. The role is responsible for trial establishment, evaluation, data gathering and reporting of trial results. This role supports decision-making by recommending the stage advancement of product testing and market introduction (or rejection) of varieties all over the country.
Responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate variety trials in the farmers fields in major vegetable growing areas.
- Conduct timely monitoring and evaluation of variety trials.
- Prepare and submit trials and crop agronomy activity reports on a regular basis to Country Agronomy Assistant Manager, R&D (plant breeders, ROM) and M&S (Marketing Manager, Sales Manager, Product Managers).
- Recommend advancement of test varieties to the PD 2 stage, commercialization / rejection based on field trial and activity results.
- Stay updated on market developments, competitors variety testing, activities and new product introduction.
- Conduct Focus Group Discussions, Market Surveys of varieties under testing and new product variety awareness activities with farmers, traders M&S, R&D, and key stakeholders.
- Provide crop variety information (Features and Benefits) of new products for market introduction.
- Develops practical knowledge of horticulture, cultural management practices of different crops, pests and diseases and their management.
- Build and maintain effective working relationship with farmer cooperators and field partners.
Qualifications
- Degree in Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Crop Science, Horticulture, Agronomy, and other Agriculture related courses)
- Computer literate; Google workspace (Docs, sheets, slides, etc.)
- Statistical analysis and interpretation
- Technical writing and results presentation
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Driving skills are advantage
