Overall Purpose of The Job

  • The Crew Pipeline & Deployment Lead is accountable for end-to-end workforce pipeline governance across multiple fleets, ensuring promotion-ready seafarers and recruitment acceptances are converted into timely vessel deployments. The role provides strategic oversight of fleet strength, promotion flow, and recruitment intake, aligning demand and supply to achieve just-in-time manning while minimizing operational risk.

Key Responsibilities And Tasks

  • Own and govern the promotion and recruitment pushpull strategy across assigned fleets, ensuring seamless progression from recruitment and readiness to promotion and vessel joining.
  • Provide strategic oversight to ensure:
    • Promotion-ready seafarers are advanced in line with competency frameworks and fleet demand.
    • Accepted candidates are pushed into crew planning line-ups with clear timelines for deployment.
    • Accountable for fleet strength sufficiency, relief planning, and bench management across multiple fleets, proactively identifying shortages, surpluses, and risk areas.
  • Act as the single point of accountability for pipeline health, translating operational demand into recruitment and promotion actions.
  • Partner closely with Fleet Management, Recruitment, Crew Planning, Training, and Operations to align workforce supply with vessel schedules, deliveries, and trading requirements.
  • Lead cross-functional discussions to resolve pipeline bottlenecks, including training readiness, certification, medical, documentation, and promotion delays.
  • Establish, monitor, and report on key workforce metrics, including pipeline readiness, promotion velocity, bench strength, and just-in-time joining performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement of push/pull governance, processes, and controls to enhance predictability, transparency, and scalability.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and escalation support to coordinators or junior planners involved in push/pull execution.
  • Support senior management with forward-looking analysis, scenario planning, and recommendations related to fleet growth, attrition, and manpower risk.

Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in marine studies, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in maritime crewing, recruitment, planning within the maritime industry.
  • Strong leadership skills, with demonstrated experience in leading difficult discussions w/ key stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in crew change planning software/systems, such as ShipSure.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret data and make data-driven decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to clearly convey complex information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven problem-solver with the ability to analyze issues, identify root causes, and drive effective solutions.
