About the Department

Sony Music Publishing, established in 1995, is the world's leading music publisher. The company owns or administers a diverse catalogue of songs by iconic artists including The Beatles, Queen, Motown, Carole King, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and The Rolling Stones, as well as contemporary songwriters like Ed Sheeran, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Pharrell Williams, Rihanna and many more.

About the Role

This role handles copyright administration and royalty processes, requiring a highly detail-oriented approach to ensure accurate reporting and distribution of music publishing income.

What You'll Do: (job responsibilities)

Copyright & Royalty Administration

  • Create new local contracts and new works into internal system
  • Register local repertoire with the appropriate collecting societies
  • Notify relevant parties of local song releases and submit all required metadata and documentation
  • Monitor and verify accuracy of local data uploaded into internal systems
  • Manage counterclaims and disputes to ensure accurate and timely royalty collection, escalating issues when necessary

Royalty Reporting & Distribution

  • Monitor and follow up on timely royalty reporting from all income sources, including licensees
  • Ensure electronic royalty reports are received and properly processed
  • Conduct internal audits of royalty statements and reports
  • Review discrepancy reports to identify under-accounting by external partners and coordinate follow-ups
  • Track income performance of songs and releases, including chart activity and other usage indicators

Who You Are: (skills and experience; split between absolute must-haves and desirable List in order of importance)

• 1–2 years of experience in the music industry

• Strong passion for music and the music business, with a good understanding of current music trends

• Knowledge of, and interest in, music media and revenue streams, with particular focus on Music Publishing

• Highly organized and comfortable handling large volumes of data

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and able to quickly learn customized systems

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Good interpersonal and communication skills

• Able to communicate clearly in English, particularly in email correspondence
