Job Overview
Our client is looking for a detail-oriented, highly accurate Construction Estimator with mandatory hands-on experience using Wunderbuild. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with numbers, architectural drawings, and construction documentation, particularly within the Australian construction industry. In this role, you will prepare accurate cost estimates, handle quantity take-offs, coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors, and manage estimating workflows to support residential renovation and extension projects.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Sydney Time, with 1 hour unpaid break (40 work hours per week)
ResponsibilitiesEstimating & Quantity Take-Offs
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for residential renovation and extension projects.
- Review architectural drawings, plans, specifications, and scopes of work.
- Conduct quantity take-offs for materials, labour, trades, and subcontractor works.
- Prepare bills of quantities and detailed pricing schedules.
- Assist with preliminary and detailed estimates.
- Review project scopes and identify missing information or potential cost issues.
- Maintain estimating templates, pricing spreadsheets, and cost databases.
- Assist with reviewing and pricing project variations.
Tender & Pricing Support
- Assist with tender preparation and submissions.
- Request quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Follow up outstanding quotations and pricing.
- Compare supplier and subcontractor quotes.
- Analyse pricing to ensure estimates are accurate and competitive.
- Assist with value engineering and alternative pricing options.
- Prepare clear estimates and pricing summaries for owner review.
Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination
- Prepare and send requests for quotation (RFQs).
- Communicate with suppliers and subcontractors regarding project requirements.
- Follow up pending quotations and pricing.
- Maintain accurate records of received quotes.
- Compare and organise supplier and subcontractor pricing.
- Escalate pricing gaps, discrepancies, or issues when required.
Project & Estimating Administration
- Maintain accurate project and estimating information within Wunderbuild.
- Organise drawings, specifications, quotes, pricing, and project documentation.
- Track estimating deadlines and ensure quotes are completed on time.
- Support the transition of projects from estimating into construction.
- Maintain accurate records of project costs and supplier pricing.
- Assist with general project and administrative tasks related to estimating and construction.
- Coordinate with other Tradie VA administrative support to ensure project information is complete, accurate, and up to date.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage estimating information, pricing, and workflows within Wunderbuild.
- Follow established estimating processes and contribute to improving them.
- Document recurring estimating processes and assist in developing SOPs.
- Maintain organised estimating templates and resources.
- Use AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT where appropriate to improve productivity, documentation, and workflow efficiency.
Requirements
- 2–3 years of construction estimating experience.
- Proven proficiency in Wunderbuild – mandatory.
- Experience working within the Australian construction industry is highly preferred.
- Experience with residential construction, renovations, extensions, or similar projects.
- Experience conducting quantity take-offs and cost calculations.
- Experience preparing estimates, pricing schedules, or tender submissions.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
Note on Software:
- Mandatory: Wunderbuild, Microsoft Excel
- Preferred: Xero, Microsoft Office Suite, other construction estimating software, construction management platforms, AI productivity tools (e.g., Claude or ChatGPT).
- Important: Candidates must have hands-on experience using Wunderbuild. Strong experience with other construction estimating or project management platforms will not substitute for the Wunderbuild requirement.
