Job Description

Job Summary

The Configuration Specialist plays a crucial role in maintaining and managing the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) and ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of IT assets, infrastructure, and configuration items (CIs). This role is responsible for enforcing configuration management policies, ensuring data integrity, and supporting IT service management (ITSM) processes such as change, incident, and problem management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configuration Management & CMDB Maintenance
  • Maintain and update the Configuration Management Database (CMDB) with accurate information about IT assets, infrastructure, and relationships.
  • Perform regular audits to validate CMDB data accuracy and consistency.
  • Identify and correct discrepancies in configuration records through reconciliation processes.
  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Work closely with IT teams, including Infrastructure, Cloud, Security, backend developers, Service Delivery and Service Management, to maintain accurate configuration data.
  • Partner with application owners, system engineers, and IT operations to define and improve CI relationships and dependencies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for CMDB-related topics, providing guidance to stakeholders.
  • Provide training and documentation to teams on CMDB best practices and usage.
  • Data Quality
  • Monitor CMDB data quality, ensuring completeness, correctness, and consistency.
  • Support incident, problem, and change management processes by providing accurate configuration data.
  • Assist in root cause analysis by ensuring the CMDB reflects the correct dependencies and infrastructure mappings.
  • Continuous Improvement & Automation
  • Identify opportunities to improve automation for configuration data collection and updates.

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in IT Configuration Management, CMDB administration, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL framework, particularly Configuration Management, Change Management, and Asset Management.
  • Experience with data quality management, reporting, and audits within CMDB.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve data discrepancies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work across various IT and business teams.
