We are seeking an experienced
Concrete Estimator to join our preconstruction team. This role is responsible for independently preparing detailed cost estimates across all project phases—from schematic design through construction documents.
The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in concrete and structural systems, excels in quantity takeoffs and bid analysis, and brings a strategic mindset to cost planning and value engineering. This role also contributes to team leadership, client relationships, and continuous improvement within the estimating function.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Prepare accurate, detailed, and timely quantity takeoffs across project phases (schematic, design development, and construction documents)
- Develop cost estimates across multiple CSI divisions, with a focus on concrete and structural systems
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and drawings to identify scope requirements and cost drivers
- Develop and document clear assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions in collaboration with project teams
- Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure competitive and complete pricing
- Build and maintain accurate unit costs and pricing databases
- Perform constructability reviews and identify risks, gaps, and opportunities for cost optimization
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid interviews as required
- Support value engineering initiatives and recommend cost-saving alternatives
Technical & Systems Expertise
- Utilize estimating and takeoff software (e.g., MC2, On-Screen Takeoff, Paydirt, Constructware) with high proficiency
- Interpret complex construction details across multiple trades including civil/site work, foundations, structural systems, and finishes
- Plan and manage takeoff workload efficiently to meet deadlines
- Continuously expand knowledge of construction materials, systems, and emerging technologies
Collaboration & Client Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and senior estimators to ensure alignment on project scope and budget
- Represent the company in client interactions, industry events, and preconstruction activities
Leadership & Development
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior estimators, interns, and co-op team members when applicable
- Support knowledge-sharing and training initiatives within the estimating team
- Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, or construction operations on commercial projects
- Strong expertise in concrete estimating and structural systems
- Proven experience preparing detailed cost estimates and quantity takeoffs across multiple CSI divisions
- Advanced proficiency in estimating and takeoff software tools
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior estimators or trainees
- Deep knowledge of exterior wall systems and interior finishes
- Familiarity with value engineering and cost optimization strategies
- Broad understanding of MEP systems and integrated construction costs
