The Commis Chef (Pastry) is responsible for assisting in the preparation, baking, and presentation of pastries, desserts, breads, cakes, and other bakery products while maintaining the highest standards of quality, food safety, and hygiene. The role supports the daily operations of the Pastry Kitchen by ensuring timely production, proper stock management, and a clean and organized work environment. Working closely with the Pastry Chef and culinary team, the Commis Chef (Pastry) contributes to delivering exceptional dining experiences and high-quality pastry offerings for guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation, baking, and presentation of pastries, breads, desserts, cakes, and other baked goods in accordance with established recipes and quality standards
- Support the daily pastry production requirements for breakfast, lunch, dinner, banquets, and special events
- Prepare ingredients and maintain mise en place for pastry and bakery operations
- Ensure consistency in product quality, taste, and presentation
- Monitor inventory levels of pastry ingredients and supplies and coordinate replenishment requirements with supervisors
- Participate in monthly inventory counts and stock control activities
- Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the pastry kitchen, equipment, and workstations in compliance with food safety standards
- Assist the Sous Chef, Team Leader, or Chef de Partie during catering events, functions, and special dining experiences as required
- Properly store and handle ingredients, finished products, and equipment to minimize waste and ensure food safety
- Support the implementation of Environmental Management System (EMS) initiatives and sustainability programs
- Comply with company policies, food safety regulations, and all applicable legal and operational standards
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
