Job Description
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Application Support Engineer with strong COBOL Mainframe expertise to support critical enterprise applications and ensure system stability and availability.
The successful candidate will be responsible for investigating and resolving application issues, troubleshooting production incidents, monitoring system health, and performing root cause analysis. The role requires close collaboration with technical and business teams to minimize system disruptions and continuously improve application performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
Provide application support for COBOL Mainframe applications in a production environment.
Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents, defects, and technical issues.
Analyze system logs, job outputs, error messages, and application behavior to identify root causes.
Troubleshoot mainframe batch processing and application-related issues.
Perform root cause analysis and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
Monitor application and system health to proactively identify potential issues.
Collaborate with development, infrastructure, database, and other technical teams to resolve complex issues.
Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities.
Document troubleshooting procedures, technical findings, resolutions, and known issues.
Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
Participate in team discussions and provide technical solutions to application-related problems.
Work independently on assigned issues and escalate complex problems when necessary.
Required Technical Skills
Strong hands-on experience with COBOL Mainframe.
Strong understanding of IBM Mainframe environments.
Experience with batch processing and production support.
Experience in debugging and troubleshooting complex application issues.
Ability to analyze system logs, job outputs, and error messages.
Knowledge of application monitoring and performance troubleshooting.
Strong understanding of incident and problem resolution processes.
Good-to-Have Skills
IBM Db2
IBM IMS Database
JCL (Job Control Language)
CICS
VSAM
TSO/ISPF
Mainframe scheduling tools such as Control-M or CA7
ITIL or IT service management experience
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Relevant experience in COBOL Mainframe application support or production support.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively with cross-functional teams.
Willingness to work on a mid-shift schedule.
