Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced
Coating, Painting and Insulation (Piping & Pipeline) Inspector to join our Quality Assurance and Quality Control team. This role is critical to ensuring the highest standards of coating, painting, and insulation applications in the oil & gas and industrial sectors. The successful candidate will conduct comprehensive inspections, monitor contractor compliance, and maintain rigorous quality standards across all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Review and approve contractor painting, coating, and wrapping procedures
- Conduct inspections of surface profile and chloride contamination testing per applicable standards
- Monitor weather and equipment conditions during painting and coating operations
- Verify paint materials are sourced from approved manufacturers with valid pot life
- Ensure coating application complies with manufacturer technical data sheets and approved specifications
- Monitor proper time intervals between intermediate coats for optimal chemical and mechanical bonding
- Witness and verify Dry Film Thickness (DFT) and holiday/pinhole detection using calibrated equipment
- Monitor surface preparation, bonding agent application, elastomer and wrapping operations on riser pipes and clamps
- Witness post-curing tests including hardness, spark, sound, adhesion, visual and dimensional checks
- Monitor CTE coating application and post-curing tests on pipelines
- Monitor heat shrink sleeve application and holiday testing on field joints
- Monitor wrapping (Servi Wrap M 30 B), holiday detection, and doping on offshore pipelines
Technical Expertise & Decision-Making
- Apply strong knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS)
- Select and execute appropriate inspection techniques for each application
- Verify and approve non-conformities and corrective actions
- Identify required Bureau Veritas interventions based on Quality Plans and specified standards
- Review and appraise inspection procedures
- Conduct all activities within defined scope of competency
Business & Reporting Requirements
- Report daily inspection findings, non-compliance, and discrepancies to Team Leader
- Deliver inspection reports within allocated timeframes with high quality standards
- Ensure inspections comply with approved drawings, Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), and technical specifications
- Meet project development objectives and timelines
Customer & Stakeholder Management
- Establish and maintain direct contact with clients and project stakeholders
- Liaise with clients and Project Management Consultants professionally and effectively
- Understand client needs and work toward successful project outcomes
- Develop trust and open communication channels with all stakeholders
- Ensure inspections align with Purchase Orders, approved drawings, and applicable technical specifications
Continuous Improvement & Professional Development
- Maintain expertise through specialized training and knowledge management
- Stay current on all painting and coating developments
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and best practice initiatives
- Demonstrate results-oriented, service-driven, and problem-solving approach

Minimum Required Qualifications
Education
- 3-Year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, OR
- 4-Year Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Certifications & Specializations
- BGAS 2 or NACE 2 Certification (mandatory)
- Minimum 5 years work experience in similar coating, painting, and insulation inspection roles
- For Pipeline Inspectors: Familiarity with 3 LPE (Liquid Epoxy) coating systems

- Diploma Holders: Minimum 8 years in oil & gas sector
- Bachelor Degree Holders: Minimum 6 years in oil & gas sector
Technical Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, API, ANSI, ASTM, BS)
- Proven experience with painting/coating inspection per relevant codes
- Proficiency in applying codes, standards, project specifications, and procedures
Training & Certifications (Upon Hire)
