Your Role:
As a Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Supervisor, you will lead the daily operations of the CDI team, ensuring high-quality clinical documentation, regulatory compliance, and achievement of production and quality goals. You will collaborate with physicians, coding teams, and revenue cycle stakeholders to improve documentation accuracy, optimize reimbursement, and drive continuous process improvement.
Specifically, you will:
- Supervise, coach, and develop a team of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists, including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management.
- Monitor team productivity, documentation quality, and key operational metrics to ensure client service level agreements and performance targets are achieved.
- Conduct documentation audits and quality reviews to ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG methodology, CMS/OIG regulations, and CDI best practices.
- Partner with Coding, HIM, Revenue Integrity, Billing, and Accounts Receivable teams to resolve documentation issues, reduce denials, and improve coding accuracy.
- Present team performance, KPIs, operational updates, and improvement initiatives during leadership and operations meetings.
- Coordinate with IT teams to optimize CDI workflows, EMR systems, encoder tools, and documentation technology.
- Provide ongoing education, coaching, and mentoring on documentation standards, coding updates, audit findings, and regulatory changes.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to improve documentation quality and ensure complete, accurate clinical records.
- Support the development and maintenance of CDI policies, procedures, and standard operating guidelines while promoting continuous improvement initiatives.
What You Need:
Non-negotiables
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Active Philippine Registered Nurse (PHRN) or US Registered Nurse (USRN) license.
- Minimum of 2 years of inpatient Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) supervisory experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of acute care hospital experience (ICU and/or Medical-Surgical preferred).
- CCDS (Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist), CDIP (Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or equivalent certification.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS coding, MS-DRG methodology, risk adjustment, and CDI best practices.
- Experience using hospital EMR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Meditech.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills (minimum CEFR B2).
- Proven leadership, coaching, and performance management experience.
Preferred skills/expertise
- Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
- Experience with CDI and coding technology platforms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint).
- Strong understanding of CMS, OIG, AHIMA, and ACDIS documentation and coding guidelines.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in matrixed healthcare environments.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to independently manage projects, influence decision-making, and drive operational improvements.
- Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
