About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to support our client's estimating and tendering team in the sub-category of concrete sleeper retaining walls on an as required basis. The successful candidate will undertake material quantity take-offs (i.e. concrete sleepers, steel posts, fence brackets, geofabric, ag line and aggregate), calculation of retaining wall square meterage based on individual wall heights and in total, services mark-ups of plans and other estimating activities for Australian civil construction projects.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with Australian civil construction estimating experience who is confident in reading and marking-up plans, interpreting specifications, and producing accurate quantities and cost estimates.

Key Responsibilities

Review construction drawings, plans, specifications, scope of works, and tender documents.

Perform accurate quantity take-offs, measurements and service mark-ups for civil construction works within designated turnaround timeframes that range from 24 hours to 1 week.

Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQ), schedules of quantities, and cost estimates as required.

Estimate materials, labour, plant, subcontractor, and other project costs.

Assist with pricing for:

Concrete sleeper retaining walls

Review tender requirements and identify inclusions, exclusions, risks, and assumptions.

Maintain estimating spreadsheets, databases, and tender registers.

Review historical project costs and pricing data to improve estimating accuracy.

Assist with variations, revised scopes, and additional works pricing.

Maintain accurate records of estimates, quotes, drawings, and tender documentation.

Provide general estimating and administrative support to the project team.

Required Experience & Qualifications

2–5+ years of experience in civil construction estimating, preferably within the Australian construction industry.

Strong understanding of Australian civil construction practices and terminology.

Experience performing quantity take-offs from engineering and construction drawings.

Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications, and scope of works.

Experience preparing BOQs and detailed cost estimates.

Strong understanding of construction materials, labour, plant, and subcontractor costs.

Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.

Excellent Excel skills.

Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Ability to work independently and meet tender deadlines.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented Civil Estimator or Quantity Surveyor who has hands-on experience supporting Australian civil construction projects. They should be comfortable working with drawings, quantities, pricing, subcontractor quotations, and tender documentation, while being able to work independently and communicate effectively with the Australian-based team.
