Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with at least 5 years of professional experience in site development, stormwater management, and drainage design. The ideal candidate is technically strong, capable of independently performing engineering calculations, and experienced in producing permit-ready construction documents for commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments.

This role requires expertise in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, grading and utility design, flood studies, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will manage multiple projects simultaneously while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses using industry-standard software such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, or similar platforms.
  • Prepare flood studies, including floodplain delineation, hydraulic and hydrologic calculations, and FEMA/regulatory compliance documentation.
  • Design stormwater management systems, including detention and retention ponds, outlet structures, emergency spillways, and storm drainage infrastructure.
  • Develop comprehensive grading plans, including earthwork calculations, finished floor elevations, vertical alignments, contouring, and site tie-ins.
  • Design retaining walls up to four feet in height as part of grading and site development projects.
  • Produce complete utility plans for water distribution, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, domestic water, fire flow systems, and septic alternatives where applicable.
  • Perform stormwater runoff calculations using the Rational Method and other accepted engineering methodologies for existing and proposed site conditions.
  • Design drainage systems including swales, bar ditches, storm drains, culverts, and conveyance systems, while evaluating downstream capacity impacts.
  • Prepare erosion and sediment control plans and develop SWPPP documentation for construction administration.
  • Produce permit-ready construction document packages, including engineering drawings, specifications, details, and supporting calculations.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable municipal, state, and federal regulations, including FEMA, TCEQ, and City of Dallas standards where applicable.
  • Coordinate with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines throughout project development.
  • Independently perform engineering calculations and technical design work with minimal supervision.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, accuracy, and project schedules.
  • Provide proactive communication regarding project progress, technical challenges, and schedule updates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience with a strong emphasis on site development and stormwater drainage design.
  • Strong experience performing hydraulic and hydrologic analyses.
  • Proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, or equivalent civil engineering design software.
  • Hands-on experience with HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, StormCAD, or similar hydraulic and hydrologic modeling software.
  • Thorough understanding of grading design, earthwork calculations, utility coordination, and stormwater management principles.
  • Experience preparing permit-ready engineering plans and construction documents.
  • Knowledge of FEMA floodplain regulations, erosion and sediment control requirements, and applicable municipal design standards.
  • Ability to independently complete engineering calculations and technical designs with minimal oversight.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred.
  • Experience working on commercial, residential, mixed-use, and municipal land development projects.
  • Familiarity with City of Dallas, TCEQ, and other local jurisdiction design standards.
  • Experience coordinating with permitting agencies and reviewing authorities.
