Job Description

Position Summary:

The Chemical Specialist's responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting in product solutions and usage, ensuring the proper use and procedures of detergents and chemicals dispensing equipment, and providing prompt, informed and reliable services to meet the facility's needs. He/she is responsible for ensuring the water quality is maintained and suitable for the laundry process by conducting regular testing on site and will work closely with the Laundry Management team to ensure detergency and quality is maintained. He / She is responsible for working closely with the detergent supplier and the use of their distribution system within the laundry and guest valet.

Areas of Responsibility:

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Maintains dispensing equipment as well as demonstrates safe equipment use, ensuring that the equipment is fully operational. This follows training from and delegated Scope of Work from detergent suppliers.
  • Understands cleaning needs to proactively identify solutions that best meet facilities expectations.
  • Uses appropriate tools for the job and comply with all company safety policies. Wear all the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required or necessary, know proper reporting of an accident or emergency.

Process Monitoring and Technical Analysis

  • Take regular samples of process water and analyze pH, hardness, iron content and other parameters.
  • Understands dosage rates per textile classification and can undertake basic programming of washer extractors after training by equipment vendor and detergent supplier.

Inventory and Chemical Management

  • Maintain adequate stock levels of chemicals and detergents and provide accurate consumption reporting and inventory control. Stock takes must be completed regularly, and any discrepancies reported and diagnosed.
  • Follows specifications, blueprints, manuals, and schematic drawings. These duties shall be performed using hand tools, power tools, industrial equipment, measuring and testing instruments.

Emergency Response

  • Responds to emergency service requests on weeknights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Operates all equipment and/or machinery correctly and safely.

Qualification/s:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant certification in Chemical Specialization is an advantage.
  • At least 2 years of experience in the laundry industry.
  • Knowledge of chemical analysis techniques and chemical handling procedures.
  • Familiarity with laundry chemicals, including detergents, fabric softeners, and stain removers.
  • Understanding of safety standards and regulations related to chemical use.
