Position Overview

We are currently seeking Checkers to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for quality of the deliverables of an assigned project team pertaining to structural steel detailing. They will demonstrate mastery of advanced detailing skills and knowledge, as well as promoting attainment of quality by prevention of errors rather than correction. This role includes partnering closely with the modellers and the other detailing team in support of meeting the project requirements or schedules.

Core Responsibilities

• To perform at any time and as a minimum, the tasks laid out in the DBM Vircon Skills Matrix for this position description (predominantly Advanced Modelling and Checking related items), and any future development tasks.
• To assist, as required, the initial set-up of the project, including studying Client drawings and standards, project checklist preparation, and checking first article drawings or connections.
• To provide Checking estimation and schedule to Team Leader.
• Checking of first article drawings or connections, complex model geometry or connections, complex technical elements such as Trusses, cambers, moment or brace frames, sideplates.
• Allocate model and drawing checking tasks to the checking crew in discussion with the Team Leader and monitor progress.
• Coordinate or finalise all job checking reports in conjunction with the Team Leader.
• Ensure that DBM Vircon processes and procedures are followed throughout the project.
• Review, raise to Clients, track, and manage Request for Information's (RFI) and Connection Design Queries (CDQ).
• Review and finalise design change notices prepared by the project detailing team to close them in a timely manner.
• Mentor or train Checkers 1 and 2.
• To take charge on project deliverables in coordination with the Team Leader.

Work Experience

• Experience working/Detailing in Large and Complex Projects with a minimum 5 years experience in Checking.
• 3 years experience in Tekla detailing.
• Reading Architectural Drawings and US / Australian standards preferred.

Education/Training

• University Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Civil/Mechanical/Architectural Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Certificate or training in 3D modelling software, e.g. Tekla, AutoCAD, Navisworks, etc.
• NISD Certification, preferred

Software & Technology

• Position will require the frequent use of MS Office applications, Tekla, and proprietary applications (e.g. JMS).
