Chartering Executive (Dry Bulk)

We are seeking a commercially driven Chartering Executive to support the employment and commercial performance of dry-bulk vessels.

The successful candidate will identify cargo and tonnage opportunities, prepare voyage calculations, negotiate fixtures and coordinate with shipowners, charterers, brokers and operations teams. This role is suitable for someone with experience in dry-bulk chartering, shipbroking or commercial vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify suitable cargo and vessel opportunities across assigned dry-bulk markets.

• Prepare voyage estimates, freight calculations and vessel-positioning assessments.

• Negotiate and conclude voyage charters, time-charter trips and other freight agreements.

• Review Charter Party terms, fixture recaps and rider clauses.

• Monitor vessel positions, cargo movements, freight rates and market developments.

• Maintain regular contact with shipowners, charterers, brokers and cargo interests.

• Coordinate with the operations team following fixture confirmation.

• Monitor voyage performance and profitability against approved estimates.

• Identify backhaul, triangulation and vessel-repositioning opportunities.

• Maintain accurate records of enquiries, offers, fixtures and commercial activities.

• Support laytime, demurrage, claims and other post-fixture matters when required.

• Prepare market updates and commercial-performance reports for management.

• Develop new customers, trade routes and long-term business opportunities.

• Ensure fixtures comply with internal risk, credit and compliance requirements.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Maritime Studies, Shipping, Business or a related discipline.

• 2 to 5 years of experience in dry-bulk chartering, shipbroking or commercial vessel operations.

• Good knowledge of voyage calculations, Charter Party terms and dry-bulk markets.

• Experience with vessel segments such as Handysize, Supramax, Ultramax or Panamax would be advantageous.

• Familiarity with commodities such as coal, iron ore, grain, fertilisers or minor bulks would be beneficial.

• Existing relationships with shipowners, charterers, brokers or cargo interests would be advantageous.

• Strong commercial awareness, numerical ability and negotiation skills.

• Able to respond promptly and make sound decisions in a fast-moving market.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant shipping or voyage-management systems.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
