Role Overview

The Category Head is the business owner for a strategic solution category within the company. This role is responsible for the growth, profitability, and strategic development of the category, ensuring strong productmarket fit, competitive positioning, and commercial success.

Key Responsibilities

1. Category Strategy & Market Development

  • Define the category vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Identify market opportunities, customer problems, and competitive gaps.
  • Develop and execute gotomarket strategies for the category.
  • Position the company as a solutions leader in the category domain (Road Marking Systems, Bitumen & Asphalt Solutions, Cement & Concrete Solutions ).

2. P&L Ownership

  • Own the revenue, gross margin, and profitability of the category.
  • Develop pricing architecture and margin guardrails.
  • Monitor category performance and take corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure category initiatives contribute positively to enterprise economics.

3. Product & Solution Development

  • Work with the Innovation / R&D team to identify and develop new solutions.
  • Define product specifications, performance targets, and market requirements.
  • Ensure product development is driven by real market needs.
  • Support pilot projects and field testing.

4. Commercial Alignment

  • Work closely with the Head of Sales to align category priorities with the sales team.
  • Ensure the sales force understands the value proposition and applications of category solutions.
  • Support key customer engagements when technical or strategic discussions are required.

5. Market Intelligence & Competitive Strategy

  • Monitor market trends, contractor behavior, infrastructure programs, and competitor activity.
  • Develop strategies that maintain the company's competitive advantage in the category.

6. CrossFunctional Leadership

Collaborate with key functions to deliver category performance:

  • Sales: revenue execution and customer relationships
  • Innovation / R&D: product development and testing
  • Manufacturing: production feasibility and cost optimization
  • Branding & Communications: product positioning and market education
  • Finance: category performance tracking and pricing models

7. Category Launch & Growth Initiatives

  • Lead new product launches.
  • Support contractor training and market education programs.
  • Develop strategic partnerships.

Required Competencies

  • Ability to identify market opportunities and translate them into profitable solutions.
  • Strong understanding of pricing, margins, and market dynamics.
  • Ability to influence teams without direct authority.
  • Deep understanding of contractor needs and infrastructure markets.
  • Comfortable analyzing financial and market data to guide decisions.

Ideal Background

  • Experience in construction materials, infrastructure, chemicals, asphalt, or industrial products.
  • Experience managing product lines or business units.
  • Ability to work with both technical and commercial teams.
