Position Description:

The Carrier Sales Representative is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with transportation carriers to secure capacity for customer shipments. This role serves as the primary liaison between carriers, customers, and internal operations teams to ensure the timely, cost-effective, and efficient movement of freight. The ideal candidate is a strong negotiator with excellent communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment while balancing service quality, profitability, and carrier performance.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Source, develop, and maintain relationships with new and existing transportation carriers.
  • Negotiate freight rates and transportation agreements while ensuring competitive pricing and service quality.
  • Secure carrier capacity to meet customer shipment requirements.
  • Coordinate freight movements and monitor shipments from pickup through final delivery.
  • Communicate proactively with carriers, customers, and internal teams regarding shipment status and operational updates.
  • Utilize transportation management systems (TMS), load boards, and other logistics platforms to source capacity and manage freight.
  • Build and maintain a reliable carrier network while ensuring compliance with company policies and transportation regulations.
  • Resolve shipment delays, service disruptions, and operational issues in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, shipment records, and carrier information within company systems.
  • Monitor transportation market conditions, carrier availability, and pricing trends to support operational decision-making.
  • Achieve daily productivity, service level, and performance targets established by the business.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Customer Success, and Accounting teams to support seamless freight execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Identify opportunities to improve carrier performance, operational efficiency, and overall service delivery.

Required Skills & Experience (To excel in this role, you should possess):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field is preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in Carrier Sales, Freight Brokerage, Logistics, Transportation, Dispatch, or a related industry preferred.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using Transportation Management Systems (TMS), CRM platforms, or load boards is preferred.
  • Customer-focused with strong organizational and time management skills.
