Job Description

The Medical City Iloilo is seeking a qualified Cardiac Rehab Nurse who will be assigned to the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) Department. This role plays a vital part in providing safe, high-quality, and compassionate nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac rehabilitation. The position is responsible for supporting patients throughout their recovery journey by promoting cardiovascular health, improving functional capacity, and ensuring the delivery of evidence-based rehabilitation services while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and quality care.

What's the Role All About

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assess patients before, during, and after cardiac rehabilitation sessions within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department.
  • Monitor patients cardiovascular status, vital signs, ECG (when indicated), and response to exercise and prescribed treatment plans.
  • Assist in developing and implementing individualized cardiac rehabilitation care plans in collaboration with the PM&R team, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Administer prescribed medications and provide nursing interventions in accordance with physician's orders and hospital policies.
  • Recognize, respond to, and document any changes in patient condition or medical emergencies during rehabilitation sessions.
  • Educate patients and their families on heart-healthy lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, exercise, nutrition, smoking cessation, and risk factor management.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols and patient safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient assessments, rehabilitation progress, nursing interventions, and patient education.
  • Collaborate with physiatrists, cardiologists, physical therapists, rehabilitation therapists, dietitians, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Prepare, inspect, and ensure the readiness of rehabilitation and patient monitoring equipment used during cardiac rehabilitation sessions.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and comply with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and clinical practice guidelines.

Able to recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition while exercising sound clinical judgment during rehabilitation activities.

Builds effective working relationships with patients, families, physiatrists, cardiologists, rehabilitation therapists, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide coordinated and holistic care.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid PRC license.
  • With two (2) years of relevant clinical nursing experience; experience in Cardiac Rehabilitation, Cardiac Care Unit (CCU), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Telemetry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or related cardiovascular settings is preferred.
  • Training or certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required; certification or specialized training in Cardiac Rehabilitation is an advantage.
  • Knowledgeable in cardiovascular assessment, ECG interpretation, exercise monitoring, patient education, emergency response, and cardiac rehabilitation protocols.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.
  • Willing to work rotating shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
