CAD Technician – Technology Systems

Remote, Full-Time

OTHERWISE Technology Group is looking for a CAD Technician to support technology design and engineering projects across AV, networks, structured cabling, security, access control, and building systems.

This is a full-time, hands-on drafting role. You'll work from markups, sketches, existing drawings, site information, and direction from our team to develop clear, coordinated drawing packages. We provide the software, templates, standards, and other tools necessary to perform the role.

We're looking for someone who is self-driven, strong in AutoCAD, pays attention to detail, and takes ownership of drawing production without needing every step spelled out.

What you'll work on

• Technology floor plans and device layouts
• Telecommunications and structured cabling drawings
• AV system drawings
• Security and access control layouts
• Riser diagrams and single-line drawings
• Rack elevations
• Equipment and mounting details
• Cable and device schedules
• Drawing revisions based on markups and redlines
• Coordination with architectural, electrical, and other project drawings
• PDF review, markup, and takeoffs using Bluebeam Revu
• Maintaining drawing standards, blocks, templates, and sheet organization
• Supporting project documentation using Google Workspace

Projects may include offices, commercial spaces, retail, hospitality, residential, industrial, and other environments.

What we're looking for

• Self-driven, with a track record of taking ownership of work from start to finish
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Experience producing construction or engineering drawings
• Ability to read architectural and engineering plans
• Good understanding of layers, blocks, xrefs, layouts, plotting, and drawing organization
• Strong attention to detail and drawing consistency
• Comfortable working from markups and written direction
• Able to identify missing information or coordination issues and ask the right questions
• Comfortable using Google Workspace, including Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Gmail
• Strong English communication
• Reliable and organized in a remote work environment
• Comfortable learning new tools and workflows

Experience that would be especially useful

Experience in any of these areas is a plus:

• Telecommunications
• Structured cabling
• Low-voltage systems
• Audiovisual systems
• Security or access control
• Electrical or MEP drafting
• Network infrastructure
• Bluebeam Revu experience, or a willingness to learn it
• Canva, for proposal graphics and presentations

You do not need experience in every system listed above. A strong CAD background in telecom, electrical, MEP, AV, construction, or another technical discipline can translate well into this role.

About the Role

You'll work directly with our team, including our Designer of Record, to turn project information into accurate, usable drawing packages and help keep project documentation organized and consistent.

We care more about technical judgment, accuracy, consistency, and willingness to learn than having experience with every type of system we design.

In this role, you will be expected to:

• Own your assignments and drive them to completion without constant follow-up
• Produce accurate, organized, and coordinated drawings
• Follow company standards, templates, naming conventions, and workflows
• Complete assigned work reliably and communicate progress clearly
• Review your own work before submitting it for review
• Identify conflicts, missing information, and unclear instructions early
• Ask focused questions rather than making unsupported assumptions
• Respond constructively to markups and incorporate revisions accurately
• Maintain organized project files and documentation
• Meet agreed deadlines while maintaining drawing quality

Schedule

This is a full-time remote role working with teams across the globe.

Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM U.S. Eastern Time.

Candidates may be based in the United States or internationally, provided they can reliably work during those hours.

• A reliable computer and internet connection suitable for remote CAD work
• A quiet, professional workspace
• Ability to work consistently during the stated Eastern Time schedule
• Ability to participate in video meetings and communicate through email and team collaboration tools
• Authorization to work as required in your location
• Availability for occasional schedule adjustments or project coordination meetings, when needed

Next Steps

Shortlisted candidates will receive a short set of follow-up questions by email covering portfolio or sample drawings, CAD software and versions used, types of drawings produced, remote work experience, location and time zone, availability for the Eastern Time schedule, and compensation expectations.

Selected candidates may be asked to complete a short skills assessment or drawing exercise. Any assessment will be designed to evaluate drafting accuracy, organization, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions.
