About the Role:

The Business Intelligence Engineer is a member of our data science and enablement team which provides analytical solutions and tools in support of the Company's insurance and reinsurance underwriting activities. This position is responsible for the preparation and presentation of complex data in a user-friendly manner to business teams using various technical tools and methods. Additionally, this role works closely with business and technical teams to develop, design, and deliver self-service reporting and analytical tools to enable faster and improved data driven decision making by our business teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare complex reports and associated analysis as assigned to support the company's insurance and reinsured underwriting decision support tools.
Manage data preparation for reporting, reference tables, Power BI reports leveraging data from diverse sources including but not limited to our Enterprise Data Warehouse, RDM (Reference Data Management), MDM (Master Data Management), data lakes, and data marts.
Provide ongoing production support on existing reports.
Educated new end users on existing reporting and reporting tools.
Resolve and escalate issues, prioritizing and tracking them.
Manage assigned development projects acting as a data and reporting subject matter expert to support the development of new and enhanced reporting and analytics capabilities.
Perform detailed analysis of source and target systems to write approaches, requirements, and mapping specifications in collaboration with the business for the technical team to develop.
Gather requirements from business users and develop data specifications for new report development, enhancements, and/or addressing issues. Collaborate with developers to ensure specifications are understood and followed.
Manage quality assurance testing in development solutions to ensure delivery of best solution and end user acceptance. Design and implement test cases and testing plans.
Provide subject matter expertise with various levels of business and technical users throughout the project lifecycle to ensure proper documentation of requirements, specifications, system acceptance and testing and post-production roll-out support.
Apply continuous learning to assigned body of work. Learn new databases, systems, and techniques to advance the reporting capabilities of the organization.
Competent with agile methodology processes and engagement in weekly stand-up, backlog grooming, and planning sessions.

Knowledge and Skills:

Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Power BI including knowledge of Power Bi Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Visualization and Design, DAX, Power Query, Publishing and Sharing, Power Apps integration, Security and Access control.
Advanced analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable and profitable opportunities using python, SQL, and Power BI.
Intermediate to advanced Snowflake SQL skills including data loading, SQL basics, schema design and management, data transformation and processing, performance optimization, data sharing, integration, time travel, monitoring and troubleshooting.
Entry to intermediate project management skills supporting complex projects in client-facing roles with an emphasis requirements gathering, analysis, solutions testing, and deployment. Good understanding of Agile development methods and their application to company technology needs.
Ability to communicate technically complex IT concepts to business clients.
General understanding of P&C Insurance and related business processes including policy lifecycle management, claims handling and processing, understanding the use of analytics in the underwriting and claims management.
Intermediate to advanced understanding of software development life cycle, techniques, processes, methods, and best practices. Proficiency in various programming languages and versioning in GitHub.
Intermediate to advanced understanding working with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data methods like JSON and XML.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and consultative skills for effective collaboration with senior management and customers.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, business analytics, business information systems or closely related field and at least 4years of progressive experience in reporting, data science/analytics or similar work OR master's degree in computer science, business analytics, business information systems or closely related field and 2 years of progressive experience in reporting, reporting, data science/analytics or similar work required
