Manager – Business Excellence (Remote)1. Role Summary
- 1.1: The Manager – Business Excellence is responsible for driving performance and operational excellence across teams by leveraging data-driven decision-making, performance metrics, and continuous improvement methodologies. This is a full-time remote position (approximately 180–200 hours per month), requiring a proactive leader who can influence change across distributed teams.
- 1.2: The role works closely with Operations leadership – particularly team Supervisors – to analyze operational data, identify trends and performance gaps, and implement strategic improvements that enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency. By examining historical and real-time data, the Manager anticipates future performance trends or bottlenecks and formulates proactive solutions to maintain optimal workflow and outcomes.
- 1.3: The Manager champions continuous improvement frameworks (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) and develops performance scorecards, KPIs, and dashboards that provide transparent tracking of team performance. Through these efforts, the Manager fosters a culture of excellence and innovation, setting clear performance metrics and utilizing industry best practices to drive results.
2. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- 2.1: Data Analysis & Performance Monitoring – Monitor and analyze operational performance data to uncover trends, patterns, and areas of underperformance. Use statistical analysis and visualization tools to derive actionable insights that inform leadership decisions and drive improvements.
- 2.2: Strategic Improvement Initiatives – Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and quality enhancement by performing gap analyses on current workflows and metrics. Develop strategic recommendations and detailed action plans to address these gaps and drive efficiency gains across the organization.
- 2.3: Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with Operations managers and frontline supervisors to develop and execute improvement plans aligned with business goals. Facilitate cross-functional workshops (e.g. Kaizen events) to engage teams in continuous improvement efforts and ensure broad buy-in for changes.
- 2.4: KPI Development & Dashboard Management – Establish and refine Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance scorecards to measure operational effectiveness and team productivity. Develop dashboards and tracking systems that give real-time visibility into performance, enabling timely interventions and data-driven management at all levels.
- 2.5: Forecasting & Capacity Planning – Leverage historical data and real-time performance indicators to forecast future trends and anticipate potential bottlenecks or resource constraints. Conduct scenario planning to inform capacity planning and resource allocation, ensuring the organization can proactively address upcoming challenges.
- 2.6: Continuous Improvement Projects – Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives utilizing frameworks such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other quality methodologies. Streamline processes by eliminating waste and inefficiencies, and implement changes that optimize workflow and deliver measurable results in performance and cost savings.
- 2.7: Training & Mentorship – Provide coaching, training, and mentorship to supervisors and team members on data-driven management practices and continuous improvement techniques. Empower frontline leaders with the skills and tools to drive excellence in their teams, and promote a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning.
- 2.8: Performance Reporting & Communication – Prepare and present regular reports on operational performance, improvement initiatives, and outcomes to senior leadership. Clearly communicate key trends, successes, and areas requiring attention, translating complex data into concise insights that support strategic decision-making and garner stakeholder support for improvement initiatives.
3. Requirements and Qualifications
- 3.1: Education – Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management or a related field is required. An advanced degree (e.g., MBA or Master's) is a plus and indicates a strong business acumen.
- 3.2: Experience – 2+ years of experience in business excellence, process improvement, operational excellence, or a similar performance-focused role. Proven experience in a leadership or managerial capacity driving performance improvement initiatives is highly preferred.
- 3.3: Continuous Improvement Expertise – Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) and a track record of implementing process improvements with measurable results. Hands-on experience leading projects that streamlined operations or eliminated waste is essential.
- 3.4: Analytical & Data Skills – Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with proficiency in data analysis. Capable of interpreting performance metrics and using statistical or Business Intelligence tools to inform decisions. Familiarity with data visualization and forecasting techniques is desirable.
- 3.5: Metrics & KPIs – Demonstrated ability to develop, track, and utilize KPIs/metrics to drive business decisions and continuous improvement. Experience building dashboards or scorecards for monitoring team performance is a strong advantage.
- 3.6: Communication & Influence – Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey data-driven insights and inspire action across all levels of the organization. Comfortable delivering training or presentations and influencing stakeholders from frontline supervisors to senior executives.
- 3.7: Leadership & Project Management – Strong leadership and project management abilities. Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing change initiatives to successful completion. Able to prioritize projects, manage timelines, and drive results in a dynamic environment.
- 3.8: Certifications – Certification in continuous improvement is a plus, but not required. Examples include Lean Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt or other relevant certifications (PMP, etc.). Such credentials demonstrate advanced knowledge of process improvement techniques and commitment to excellence.
