Job Description

Remote | 20 Hours per Week | Eastern Time Overlap Required

About The Role

We are looking for a confident and persistent Business Development Specialist to generate qualified appointments for a Canadian commercial equipment finance company.

Your primary focus will be building relationships with equipment dealerships, equipment suppliers, and established businesses across Canada. You will speak with owners, presidents, finance leaders, fleet managers, and other decision-makers to understand their current financing process and identify where the company can provide additional options.

This is a high-volume outbound sales role. It is not a customer service or administrative position. The right candidate is comfortable making cold calls, handling objections, asking discovery questions, and following up consistently.

What You Will Do

  • Cold call equipment dealerships, suppliers, and established businesses across Canada
  • Connect with owners, presidents, CFOs, controllers, finance managers, fleet managers, and other decision-makers
  • Learn how prospects currently handle equipment financing and identify gaps in their existing process
  • Position the company as an additional financing resource that complements captive lenders, banks, and existing broker relationships
  • Identify opportunities involving customers who do not qualify through a dealership's primary lender
  • Qualify prospects based on business history, credit standing, equipment requirements, timing, and financial readiness
  • Book qualified appointments for the VP of Commercial Finance
  • Follow up through phone, email, and LinkedIn
  • Research companies, identify decision-makers, and build targeted prospect lists when required
  • Maintain accurate notes, follow-up dates, and activity records in Excel or the company's tracking system
  • Coordinate with the client before contacting accounts to avoid overlap with businesses already being managed
  • Work with the VP of Commercial Finance to refine target industries, messaging, and outreach strategies

Target Markets

  • The initial focus will be dealerships, suppliers, and established businesses that purchase or sell:
  • Construction and heavy equipment
  • Commercial vehicles and fleets
  • Transportation and trucking equipment
  • Manufacturing machinery
  • Agriculture and forestry equipment
  • Warehousing and material-handling equipment
  • Other business-critical equipment

Who We Are Looking For

  • At least 3 years of B2B cold-calling, appointment-setting, business development, or outbound sales experience
  • Proven ability to reach business owners and senior decision-makers by phone
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • Strong discovery, qualification, objection-handling, and appointment-setting skills
  • Confident and professional telephone presence
  • Persistence and resilience in a high-volume calling environment
  • Strong follow-up habits across phone, email, and LinkedIn
  • Good business judgment and the ability to understand a prospect's current financing process
  • Ability to research companies and independently build targeted lead lists
  • Strong organization and accurate activity tracking
  • Comfortable using Excel or similar tools when a CRM is unavailable
  • Availability during Canadian business hours, with regular Eastern Time overlap
  • Flexibility to contact businesses across Canadian time zones

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in any of the following is strongly preferred:
  • Commercial equipment financing or leasing
  • Banking, lending, or financial services
  • Heavy equipment, construction, trucking, transportation, agriculture, manufacturing, or fleet services
  • Selling to equipment dealerships, suppliers, or established businesses
  • LinkedIn prospecting and independent lead generation

Performance Expectations

Once fully trained and ramped up, the target is approximately 3 to 4 qualified appointments per working day. Quality is more important than simply filling the calendar.

A qualified appointment should involve a relevant decision-maker at an equipment dealer, supplier, or established business with a credible equipment financing need or partnership opportunity.

Consistent outbound activity is also expected. Depending on campaign requirements and list quality, this may involve approximately 50 to 80 calls per day, supported by follow-up through email and LinkedIn.

Schedule

  • 20 hours per week
  • You must be available during North American business hours with regular overlap with the Eastern Time Zone (ET).
