Job Summary
The Business Continuity Officer is responsible for supporting the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the company's Business Continuity Management Framework. The role coordinates the completion and review of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs), Business Impact Analyses (BIAs), Business Continuity Risk Assessments (BCRAs), Crisis Management Plans (CMPs), and Business Continuity (BC) exercises across business units. It also provides governance support through policy and guideline maintenance, reporting, monitoring of corrective actions, and BCM awareness initiatives to strengthen organizational resilience and ensure compliance with regulatory and internal requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
Business Continuity Management (BCM) Framework
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the BCM Framework.
- Coordinate the annual review and update of BCM policy, guidelines, and supporting documents.
- Facilitate completion, review, and maintenance of BCPs and CMPs across business units.
- Review BCM documents for completeness, consistency, and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Monitor and follow up the closure of identified BCM gaps and corrective actions.
Business Continuity Assessments
- Coordinate the completion of BIA and BCRA activities.
- Review BIA and BCRA submissions to ensure completeness, quality, and alignment with BCM methodology.
- Validate critical business processes, recovery requirements, dependencies, and resource requirements with business units.
- Ensure assessments incorporate organizational changes, operational incidents, audit observations, and lessons learned where applicable.
Crisis Management Planning
- Coordinate the development, review, and maintenance of CMP and playbooks.
- Consolidate inputs from business units and subject matter experts for plan updates.
- Incorporate lessons learned from incidents and exercises into BCM documentation.
- Ensure Crisis Management documentation remains aligned with regulatory requirements and internal standards.
Business Continuity Testing and Exercises
- Coordinate annual BC testing and exercise activities across business units.
- Facilitate exercise planning, participant orientation, execution, and post-exercise activities.
- Prepare BC exercise reports and monitor remediation of identified gaps.
- Track implementation of corrective actions arising from BC tests and exercises.
BCM Governance and Reporting
- Prepare BCM reports, dashboards, committee materials, and management presentations.
- Monitor BCM action items arising from governance meetings and ensure timely follow-up.
- Maintain BCM documentation repositories and supporting records.
- Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and other reporting requirements.
BCM Awareness and Capability Building
- Conduct BCM awareness sessions and training programs for business units and Auxiliary Governance Officers (AGOs).
- Provide guidance and advisory support on BCM requirements, methodologies, and documentation.
- Develop and enhance BCM training materials and awareness resources.
- Promote BCM awareness and preparedness across the organization.
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive Knowledge: Working knowledge of BCM, BIA, BCP, BCRA, CMP principles and governance processes. Familiarity with operational risk management concepts is an advantage. Understanding of applicable BSP regulations and industry standards related to BCM.
- Banking / Industry Experience: Knowledge of banking operations, business processes, and operational support functions. Experience in the financial services industry or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
- Analytical & Technical Skills: Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess business processes, identify gaps, validate BCM documentation, analyze assessment results, and recommend practical improvements. Demonstrates attention to detail and the ability to organize and interpret information effectively. Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Stakeholder Management: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with business units, Auxiliary Governance Officers (AGOs), and support functions. Capable of coordinating activities, facilitating discussions, providing guidance, and following through on agreed deliverables while fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear reports, policies, presentations, and meeting materials. Able to facilitate training sessions, communicate BCM requirements, and present information clearly.
- Personal Attributes: Proactive, organized, and results-oriented with a strong sense of accountability and integrity. Demonstrates initiative, adaptability, sound judgment, and a continuous improvement mindset. Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
