This role serves as the day-to-day bridge between underwriting, claims, finance, and operations stakeholders and the technical teams building data, reporting, and AI capabilities, ensuring that data products are well-defined, properly tested, and adopted by the business.

The ideal candidate combines strong core business analysis skills with hands-on experience in insurance operations, reporting/BI tools, and exposure to AI/ML-enabled analytics initiatives.
Experience with Guidewire (PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, or Guidewire Cloud) or similar SaaS platforms (Duck Creek) is highly valued, as is background in specialty, commercial, or excess & surplus (E&S) insurance, underwriting, claims, or regulatory reporting.

The ideal candidate will work closely and collaborate with the Product Owner, data engineers, data scientists, and Power BI developers to shape the backlog, define acceptance criteria, and validate delivered insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Partnering with the Product Owner:
• Act as the primary business analysis support to the Product Owner, helping shape and refine the AI Data Insights and Power BI reporting roadmap and backlog.
• Translate the Product Owner's strategic priorities into detailed, developer-ready user stories, acceptance criteria, and data requirements.
• Support prioritization decisions by providing business context, data feasibility considerations, and stakeholder impact analysis.
• Prepare and facilitate backlog grooming, sprint planning, refinement, and sprint review sessions alongside the Product Owner.
• Track dependencies between AI/analytics initiatives and other technology workstreams (e.g., Guidewire, policy/claims systems).

Data & Reporting Requirements:
• Elicit and document reporting, dashboard, and data requirements from underwriting, claims, finance, and operations stakeholders.
• Define data definitions, business rules, KPIs, and metrics used in Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Partner with data engineering/data science teams to translate business questions into analytical and AI use cases (e.g., predictive risk scoring, loss trend insights, underwriting/claims analytics).
• Document data lineage, source-to-report mapping, and data quality expectations for reporting deliverables.
• Analyze current-state reporting processes and identify opportunities to consolidate, automate, or enhance them through Power BI and AI-driven insights.

AI/Analytics Solution Support:
• Support evaluation of AI-enabled features (e.g., predictive analytics, natural language querying, automated insights) against business needs.
• Help define and validate business logic behind AI model outputs in partnership with data science teams, ensuring outputs are explainable and aligned with insurance operations.
• Participate in impact analysis when data models, source systems (including Guidewire), or reporting structures change.

Testing & Quality Assurance:
• Develop test plans, test cases, and validation scenarios for Power BI reports, dashboards, and AI-driven insights.
• Validate report accuracy, data integrity, and calculation logic against documented requirements.
• Coordinate user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders for new dashboards, reports, and AI features.
• Log, track, and manage defects through resolution with development and data teams.

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
• Serve as a trusted liaison between business stakeholders and the Product Owner/technical delivery teams.
• Lead requirement walkthroughs, dashboard demos, and solution reviews with business audiences.
• Communicate roadmap progress, risks, assumptions, and data/reporting decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Operational Support & Enablement:
• Investigate and troubleshoot reporting or data issues raised by business users.
• Develop training materials, job aids, and documentation for new dashboards and AI-driven insights tools.
• Conduct end-user training and drive adoption of new reporting and analytics capabilities.
• Support change management efforts as AI and Power BI capabilities are rolled out across the business.

Preferred Functional Knowledge:

• Specialty Insurance / Commercial Lines / Excess & Surplus (E&S)
• Underwriting Operations, Claims Operations, or Policy Administration
• Rating and Pricing
• Insurance Reporting and Analytics
• Loss trend, risk scoring, or predictive analytics in an insurance context

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Business Analyst experience, including supporting reporting, data, or analytics initiatives.
• Experience eliciting and documenting data, reporting, and business requirements.
• Experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications in an Agile/Scrum environment.
• Strong understanding of data concepts: data definitions, KPIs, data quality, and source-to-report mapping.
• Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, especially in supporting a Product Owner.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
• Experience conducting testing and supporting UAT for reporting/data deliverables.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Direct experience supporting an AI, data science, or advanced analytics product team.
• Experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter, ClaimCenter, BillingCenter, or Guidewire Cloud Platform.
• Experience with Power BI, Snowflake

• Familiarity with API integrations and system-to-system data flows.
• Experience working within Azure DevOps, Jira, or other Agile management tools.
• Professional certifications such as: CBAP, CCBA, Guidewire Certifications, Microsoft Power BI certifications, or Agile/Scrum certifications.

Ideal Candidate Profile

A successful candidate combines the mindset of a Business Analyst, Insurance Subject Matter Expert, and Data/Reporting Partner. While Power BI and Guidewire experience is a strong plus, individuals with solid insurance operations knowledge, underwriting or claims expertise, and a genuine interest in AI-driven analytics who can effectively translate business needs into data and reporting solutions are strongly encouraged to apply.
