Bus conductors support drivers in ensuring safe, efficient, and orderly public transportation services. Their core duties include:

  • Fare Management: Collecting fares, issuing tickets/passes, verifying ticket validity, and handling cash/electronic payment systems accurately.
  • Passenger Assistance: Helping passengers board/alight (especially those with disabilities, elderly, or carrying luggage), providing route/schedule information, and addressing inquiries or complaints.
  • Safety & Order: Monitoring passenger behavior to enforce safety rules, conducting pre-trip checks of equipment (e.g., doors, seats), signaling drivers to proceed safely, and reporting incidents or vehicle issues promptly.
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintaining records of fares collected, assisting with vehicle cleanliness, and complying with company policies and regulatory guidelines.

Typical Requirements

Legal & Licensing (Philippines-Specific):

  • Conductor's License: Mandatory from the Land Transportation Office (LTO)
  • Medical certificate from an LTO-accredited clinic (proving physical/mental fitness)
  • Completion of the Conductor's Theoretical Course (CTC) at LTO or accredited driving schools
  • Ability to read/write in Filipino or English
  • Clean traffic record with no unresolved violations or substance abuse history
  • Compliance: Adherence to DOLE Department Order No. 118-12 (governing employment terms for public utility bus conductors)

Educational & Skills

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Skills: Strong communication/customer service abilities, basic math for fare calculation, physical stamina to stand for long periods, problem-solving skills for handling passenger issues
  • Experience: Entry-level roles often accept no prior experience (on-the-job training provided); some employers prefer candidates with customer service background

Additional Qualifications

  • Reliability and ability to work flexible hours (including early mornings, weekends, and holidays)
  • Patience, professionalism, and adaptability to diverse passenger needs
  • Familiarity with local routes (advantageous but not always required)
