We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented, and bilingual
Medical Assistant (Spanish/English) to support our Orthopedics, Sports Medicine, and Physical Therapy team. This role combines direct patient care, clinical support, care coordination, and administrative responsibilities to help ensure a seamless patient experience from check-in through follow-up care.
The ideal candidate is fluent in both
Spanish and English, comfortable communicating with patients through both in-person and occasional video interactions, and experienced in a fast-paced orthopedic or rehabilitation setting.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Support
- Room patients, obtain vital signs, and accurately document medical histories and current concerns.
- Assist physicians and providers during orthopedic, sports medicine, and physical therapy visits, including minor in-office procedures.
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, instruments, equipment, and clinical supplies.
- Support physical therapy workflows by preparing patients for treatment and reinforcing basic exercise instructions as directed by therapists.
Patient Communication & Interpretation
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients in both Spanish and English.
- Provide interpretation and translation support to ensure Spanish-speaking patients fully understand treatment plans, instructions, medications, imaging orders, and follow-up care.
- Participate in occasional video conversations with patients for clinical follow-up, coordination, or patient education.
Documentation & Care Coordination
- Document patient encounters, referrals, imaging requests, therapy updates, and follow-up activities in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Coordinate with providers regarding patient care needs, authorizations, referrals, and scheduling requirements.
- Assist with tracking outstanding orders, imaging results, therapy plans, and return visits.
Administrative & Operational Support
- Handle inbound and outbound patient calls and clinical messages using RingCentral or similar communication systems.
- Coordinate appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, and administrative staff to keep daily clinic operations running efficiently.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
- Fluent in Spanish and English (spoken and written) required.
- Previous experience in orthopedics, sports medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation, or a related specialty preferred.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR/EMR) and clinical documentation.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and patient-service skills.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work effectively in a busy clinical environment.
- Comfortable using phone, video, and digital communication tools.
- Familiarity with orthopedic terminology, musculoskeletal conditions, and rehabilitation workflows.
- Experience assisting with injections, casting/splinting, brace fitting, or minor procedures.
- Knowledge of patient scheduling, referral coordination, and insurance-related workflows.
