BI Software Engineer

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in creating, automating, and maintaining Power BI reports and dashboards from end to end, from gathering stakeholder requirements and preparing data through report development, deployment, and production support.

The candidate should also have solid full-stack software engineering experience, with the ability to work across both frontend and backend development, while being comfortable with data modeling, SQL/data pipelines, security, performance optimization, and application integration.

Role Summary

•    Design, develop, automate, and maintain end-to-end Power BI reporting solutions, including data ingestion, transformation, semantic modeling, report/dashboard development, deployment, refresh automation, and production support.
•    Develop and maintain frontend and backend application components, including user interfaces, APIs, business logic, and integrations with databases and reporting platforms.
•    Design, develop, and optimize ETL/ELT processes using Python and SQL to ingest, transform, and load data from various sources into data warehouses or data lakes.
•    Build and maintain tabular and semantic models, including data modeling, DAX calculations, relationships, partitions, and row-level security.
•    Develop complex SQL queries, views, and functions for data extraction, aggregation, and performance tuning.
•    Create and support Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards, connecting to SSAS models, APIs, databases, or other data sources for interactive visualizations.
•    Automate Power BI data refreshes, reporting processes, deployments, and related workflows where applicable.
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into scalable reporting, analytics, and application solutions.
•    Implement data quality checks, governance, security, and monitoring to maintain the accuracy and reliability of data pipelines and reporting solutions.
•    Optimize applications, data models, queries, and reports for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
•    Support the migration or integration of legacy systems into modern Microsoft BI and application environments.

Must-Have Skills

•    Strong hands-on Power BI development experience, including the ability to build and automate reporting solutions from start to finish.
•    Advanced experience with Power BI reports, dashboards, datasets, semantic models, DAX, and Power Query.
•    Solid full-stack development experience, covering both frontend and backend development, using Python, JavaScript, Node.js, React or Angular
•    Experience developing APIs, backend services, application integrations, and database-driven applications.
•    Experience with modern frontend technologies and frameworks used to develop interactive web applications.
•    Solid understanding of ETL/ELT using Python and SQL, including data validation, data quality, and performance optimization.
•    Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
•    Experience with data warehouses, data marts, and cloud data platforms such as GCP/AWS.
•    Ability to communicate clearly with business stakeholders, product owners, data engineers, and software engineering teams.
•    Familiarity with CI/CD, version control, deployment pipelines, and governed application or analytics release processes.

Preferred Experience

•    Experience integrating or embedding Power BI reports and analytics into web applications.
•    Experience with Tableau or other BI tools.
•    Experience with proprietary or internal reporting tools.
•    Exposure to Agile methodologies and familiarity with iterative software development.
•    Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows.
