Backend Engineer / Data Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer / Data Engineer to join our team on a 7-month contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems, cloud infrastructure, and data platforms that support business-critical applications.

This role requires hands-on experience in cloud technologies, automation, infrastructure management, and data engineering practices. You will work closely with software developers, DevOps engineers, and stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and data processing solutions.
• Build and manage cloud-native infrastructure using modern technologies and best practices.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to support automated deployment and testing processes.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize platform reliability.
• Design and maintain data pipelines to support analytics and business operations.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve application performance, scalability, and security.
• Implement security controls and ensure compliance with organizational standards.
• Maintain technical documentation and provide operational support for platform services.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Requirements

Mandatory Skills

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 2 to 4 years of experience in Backend Engineering, Data Engineering, Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Hands-on experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Proficiency in scripting and programming languages such as Python, Bash, or Shell scripting.
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack, or similar technologies.
• Good understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Knowledge of backend application architecture and API development.
• Experience building and maintaining large-scale data pipelines.
• Understanding of networking, cloud security, and platform reliability concepts.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
